Water is a cycle and isn't actually consumed. Fertilizer requires energy, as does transport. If we make plant agriculture "sustainable" (i.e. independent of fossil fuels) then we will also make meat agriculture sustainable.

Every coin has two sides. Vegans are implicitly promoting genocide of cows, chicken and pigs. There's no chance these animals can survive in nature, they're so numerous exclusively because they're bred by humans for food. Is

Capitalism doesn't optimise for health, it optimises for addiction, profit, and lower costs (a.k.a. lower quality). So, yes, the more processed a food is, the more aligned it is to capitalistic motives, the less healthy it is.

Meat contributes literally zero to global CO2 emissions. After all, it's recycled grass. Maybe meat faming methods contribute CO2 emissions, but that's a reason to stop those farming methods , not stop eating meat . Similar

How do we know these "MSA-less" models aren't cheating (i.e. learning all MSAs implicitly from their training data)? If they are, they would similarly fail on any "novel" AA sequence (i.e. one without known/lea

I've been following Vale's progress with interest but AFAIK as of a few months ago, it's still vapourware. Excited to learn you're nearing an actual implementation though! Let's hope it's practical!

Yes, "pauseless" is another keyword I forgot to mention. Azul uses a read barrier which I guess makes it so slow that noone uses it (and the same ideas haven't made their way into JDK collectors). The previous version require

All of the ones you mentioned above still involve a stop-the-world phase, however brief. The keywords you’re looking for are “fullya-concurrent” or “on-the-fly” GC, but I’m not aware of any production runtime with those.

The most depressing thing about memory management is that there's been 0 innovation in the past 10+ years, and it seems like we're fundamentally at a dead end where only tradeoffs exist. There are basically 3 options going forwa

In my opinion, “all dictatorships” but US/EU prefer realpolitik and try to collaborate with some (Saudi/UAE for oil, China/Vietnam for cheap labour, …). Might eventually backfire (in process re:China)

You’ve described meritocracy. Equity is pretty explicitly anti-meritocratic. E.g. a woman should be hired over a man, or a black should be accepted to university instead of an Asian, not because they’re more skilled or have greater potentia
