A big business on AWS is probably stuck on AWS until they rework their stack to be more portable. That's the downside of using anything but generic VPSs and maybe a S3 API compatible storage.. Now they end up paying the AWS bill even i

WASM replaces Javascript as the target of other language compilers. If you already use Javascript, WASM won't be much help. But WASM lets you compile C/C++ and with a bit more effort other languages into a bytecode instead of weir

APFS appears to be very modest in scope compared to ZFS. Designed for single volumes, only a few "interesting" features that play into what Apple needs - quicker backups, flash optimized writes, easy and flexible partitioning. Tha

Wouldn't it be funny if this was just a market test/exercise, using actual S3 as a backend, just to see if it gets any traction before building own HW/SW solution?

So C++ generates separate code for each template type and C# and Java do a typecheck at compile time and reuse the same codepath for all types at runtime?

More importantly though, looking at C++ I think it may be hard to come up with a generics system that doesn't lend itself to abuse and ridiculous mega constructs. I would love to see something that provides power in ways that disallow

It's also true and nice for most modern game engines. I'm quite sure Game of life was just a subject for the exercise with the purpose to show that you can get major speedups without changing the algorithm - you don't alway

My iMac 2011 doesn't work with GPU Cycles but that's OK. And I've successfuly boosted render times by renting the multicore VPS by the hour already (commandline, specify different frame range on each machine to render).

Anyone checked if this is compatible with Blender GPU rendering? On my old Mac machine GPU rendering doesn't work; I can still get a 16-core VPS for a few hours when I'm in a hurry but this has the potential for more performance I

Exactly. It's a shame Apple didn't adopt Vulkan and went with their own proprietary Metal API. Yet another reason for game developers to keep ignoring the platform.

Somehow I doubt that the percentage indicator is any better. At constant 100% (or 50%) CPU utilisation, tracking the percentage, would you see a linear graph going down, hitting 0 as the machine shuts down? I've never tested that but i

I wonder what would happen if Adobe released Photoshop for Linux. Or if Ableton for Linux was released. I'm pretty sure those would make them try A LOT harder on the desktop front.
