Yeah but $9 for a beer is already insane in most locales. Most bars charge $5-$7, going down to $3ish (or even a dollar) for a cheap beer in a lower-income area. Unless these restaurant owners are already capped out they have a lot of wiggl

Business owners can raise their prices slowly. You know, boil the frog. Surely that prevents the harsh reactions that customers have to suddenly having the price raised?

The concern here is more that a lot of old websites embed ftp:// URLs into their links, which this will break. Now they have to be handled by an external protocol handler, and I'd bet most of us don't have one set up, so

I used to agree with this, but with how easy it is to run MITM attacks these days I think there is a pretty compelling argument for removing plaintext FTP. I don't think FTPS should go, but tbh I don't think I have ever encountere

As some other comments point out, security hardening doesn't directly raise company value. It's hard to justify in the short-term. Attitudes about it are much better now than they have ever been, but there are still a lot of folks

You bring up a very good point, and personally I attribute this to the tyranny of shareholder primacy. At least here in the states, nothing is going to change until there is an alternative that places shareholders at a level that is at most

To the first point... some stores do. Hell, even fast-food restaurants in some big cities hire armed guards to keep the peace. Have you ever seen a McDonald's with armed security? I have. And in any case the threat surface is way diffe

The problems were never with kodi, it was always the platform or the hardware. I've been running the same Kodi setup (basically just setting up SMB access to a shared network drive) since XBMC on my modded Xbox. Odroid on both their Ub

I did this with odroids instead of RPI and got sick of dealing with issues. Shield TV has been great as a kodi-and-netflix-and-nothing-else box up until now.

First of all, where is the 'punk' aspect? There needs to be an aspect of dystopia to use that word. This sort of organic-growth-everywhere aesthetic is not new, it has been in utopian urban visions for the last 20 or 30 years. Per

It shouldn't cast doubt on the value of politeness, but it does cast doubt on its application and where and why it is appropriate. Are you saying that this legacy has not cast any shadows on modern culture?
