It's actually at the top of Reddit's r/AskHistorians recommended reading list[1]. And I in fact ended up choosing to read it instead of Guns, Germs and Steel after enough comments there suggested to me that it was more deep

I need a font (or some other method) to display the UTF8 Full Block for all characters, including CJK. Does anybody know of anything? It's for rendering in Browsh, a text-based web browser: https://github.com/browsh-o

I just set up khal recently with vdirsyncer too! But to read my Fastmail Calendar. I was a little surprised that the default khal config was not at all to my liking. Here's what I ended up with: [calendars] [[main]]

I don't think my comment helped. You had already made what I think is the main point, that a _common_ linguistic ancestor (rather than direct ancestry) is plausible between the Hun and the Navajo. But the parent comment author (which I

I may be misunderstanding your point, but Wikipedia is suggesting that the connection is because of a _back_ migration from North America to Asia https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3951421

This is amazing! So we could have an entire other internet based on your protocol? I'm definitely going to take inspiration from it, thank you.

How do you mean run locally? Like caching Stack pages? At least, Browsh has a Docker image, so anywhere you can run `docker run browsh/browsh`, you can run Browsh.

The best example is the scrolling one. MoSH scrolls the buffer on the _remote_ machine and tries to send the _UI_ diff. I want my protocol to send the whole document (or at least many pages worth of it), so that scrolling can be done locall

Well the whole point of Browsh is that you run it on a remote server and use other clients to access it. You can even access Browsh with plain curl using Browsh's HTTP server mode: https://www.brow.sh/docs/in-brows

I was for a long time against that, simply because it can't be represented as text. But now I understand that sixels are just more text-based ANSI escape codes! So I'm on board again, but I'm not so personally interested in i

That's exactly what I mean. It's annoying seeing as in theory the diff should have been small. But I guess it's just MoSH's algorithm not being quite clever enough. I wonder what can be learnt from video codecs in this r

Author here. I haven't done much with the code in about 3 years. But I still have lots of plans for it. The big thing is I want to write my own UDP protocol for it. It'll be similar to MoSH's in the sense it's optimised

Me too. It's essentially a polemic of the common idea that modernity "fell" from Eden, or more conventionally, "fell" from Rousseau's State of Nature. Gobekli Tepi is used as one of many examples of how nowaday

I think Noam Chomsky even believes that human's language ability was selected for to aid computation not communication. Therefore in humans: communication IS computation.
