The Atari ST came with a 6x6 font, including spacing: https://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/876150/atari_st_6 - 5x5 means no compromises required for upper case letters, which are all readable, and punct

I think that's "Standard C"? Pure C surely just means you're only using C. As in, no C++ or Objective C or whatnot. Nothing wrong with calling out to POSIX functions, at least nothing not already obvious.

But for the price of the Cray, even without adjusting for inflation, you could buy a useful number of chairs. And just think of the electricity cost savings!

"You" would be ambiguous anyway, and might imply that you are addressing more than one, contravening the first commandment.

Interesting, thanks. I've always found the manufacturers' figures to be optimistic, but the real figures do seem to have improved over time. Perhaps not the case with trucks.

"Reduce fuel efficiency by 50%"? Did that really happen? I have driven a number of diesel cars over the last 20 years and the power-to-displacement ratio and fuel economy have improved somewhat over that period.

It seems this might not be the case for American English, but "song and dance" is only ever dismissive in British English. The implication is that the complaints are a needless distraction, due to the relative insignificance of th

This is probably only suitable for write-once PC media as the timing would be quite tight for reliably modifying individual sectors in place.

You can leave a row or two free for the descenders, and it doesn't look too objectionable. An 8x8 grid is plenty for a useful character set. Some examples: https://damieng.com/blog/2011/02/20/typogra

Pointers correctly round-trip through unrelated pointer types, provided the alignment for both types is compatible. At least one bit does look a bit questionable: lfs_mlist is treated as the common initial sequence of lfs_dir and lfs_file,

If you use this stuff a lot, it is totally going to suck. Some thing has changed, that may or may not have a good technical reason, that means that after years of the program training you into behaving one way (and it's not like this i

The Geekbench results for my phone (3 year old iPhone 12 Mini) do suggest it might actually be better than my 15" 2014 Macbook Pro, which at the time was about the fanciest you could get. Just 6 years of progress! I imagine the latest

I'm surprised the gcc and clang people have never noticed that uint8_t is an integer type, and therefore does not need to be a character type.
