Are any major computer vendors enabling this by default? Phones are encrypted by default, seems obvious to do the same for laptops and such.

I believe he is right. We are not in a bubble. VCs make big bets, assuming that many (most?) of their bets will fail, but they make it up on the winners. That is fine, I guess. What made the dot-com bubble was that the public did not unders

Pi Day has been submitted before, but this year is a little special since Pi Day has extra significant digits this year: 3/14/15 9:26. Although I guess this does not fit in all date formats.

> There are two essential strategies to manage this problem: a team can keep everything together (create a monolith) or a team can divide a project into smaller pieces (create microservices). There is a middle ground: creating libraries.

Maybe I am no fun, but I find this error page disorienting and a little disturbing. Errors pages mean you've probably messed up somehow and are associated with user frustration. This page, and the other Bloomberg error pages posted in

Back in the old days anything they could stuff in a wall was insulation. I was a volunteer firefighter years back. We had a call in the old part of town, with buildings dating back to the 1700s (George Washington slept here!). We had to ope

I've kept Flash around for the oddball site here and there that still requires it, but this week I decided to uninstall rather than patch it[1]. [1] - https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player

I agree, it is funny, but we run code we can't even see all day long. This is only 38 LOC. Anyone who is going to run it, however, should make sure they understand it.

Hiring is a two-way street. The candidate is obviously trying to sell himself or herself, but the company should do the same. Some companies like they are doing you favor by hiring you. I cannot imagine they get great talent.

Most Rail stations are in downtown areas. Most large airports are outside of cities. If you're going downtown to downtown you get the driving, parking, security and waiting time back. Air travel may still be better in a pure $ and time

It's shame. In the West (Denver) where I live service is terrible. There are always huge delays due to freight priority, as you mention, and other issues. My wife and I are considering visiting her family with our infant son in the Bay

This is really cool and a nice start. One big thing we are dealing with in our internal app are responsive tables. We display some data in tables, but it almost always looks like crap on a small screen. There are a few different ways to sol

I've heard it said that if you don't hate DST you haven't been programming long enough. DST is a huge on convenience with dubious benefits. Of course I realize that keeping CO on DST would cause headaches as well, as with eve

Similar to the 7 States of Facebook which surfaced a few years ago. http://gigaom.com/2010/02/08/the-7-somewhat-united-states-of... Culturally some of these boundaries seem more accurate.

Dead right. Someone who plans in advance will avoid driving drunk. I typically take the bus downtown and a cab home after the buses have stopped. Somehow I don't see many NFL players doing that.
