There was hype about another language out of MIT some years before those. Not saying it's not possible, just that there's a lot of hype...

In CLIM, a graphical presentation is only a representation of an underlying type. Types will have default representation (e.g., basic text like you would get from printf), but you can also override this using with-output-as-presentation (s

"process substitution" is one of the new useful things I learned this year (switched to bash from csh over 20 years ago). /proc/${pid}/fd/ is very useful for forensic purposes when you find some malware running

I prefer to keep mine separate, but I always use specific terminals / screen sessions for (mostly) the same type of work (admin, specific projects, web dev, etc.) so each have their own history, as well as keeping a per-directory recor

tl;dr (but I may revisit in the future). I used to think UX meant a wider "systems" approach to the man-machine interface, incorporating findings from CHI, cognitive science, user studies, etc. Now it seems like it is becoming a n

I have thought about this, but in the context of understanding the root causes of these problems: 1) is it a language design problem, 2) a misunderstanding or misconception on the part of the programmer, 3) due to or related to ba

To login to remote machines with dynamic IPs, have a loop on the remote machine that logs in using ssh to your server and creates an ssh connection back to it. Remote has ssh key, with ssh config that says "Remoteforward 23456 local

My first impulse is this is stupid. It means your tools aren't smart enough. Use an IDE, use aigrep, some tool that knows what to look for. A better title would be "Don't use a fastening device if it fails the hammer test.&q

What you mean is not "passphrase keys" but "public/private keypairs", and it sounds like you are using an agent as proxy, so you only have to authenticate locally once. This isn't an answer, but: password managers like LastPass can do this
