I worked for Avalara.com for a while: they help companies calculate sales tax based on location. I learned there that the five-digit ZIP code is certainly not enough. Some five-digit ZIP codes cross state boundaries, for one thing.

I'd add: - where is your friend? just wander around. you'll find him. Anyway so me too. Once I know I'm gonna be thought weird for asking someone, because most people just use their gadgets to find out, I don't ask, unless I'm not worried a

The way I understand it, ignorant of the psychology of swearing but having had to think about it since arriving here from the UK, is that if you're swearing, you're breaking a taboo that people assume you understand, so if you break it, the

Fabric isn't mentioned once in the README. Says "We didn't like the alternatives out there." with no details. Having said that, it looks like the HTTP server is the USP here. Being able to have non-techies run Fabric tasks is definitely a g

I do the same from my Android phone (using ConnectBot): I can run some long-running process and keep an eye on it while I'm out in the kitchen making a cup of tea. When I'm back in the office, I detach the Android session.

I use oDesk to find Python/Django work. Although most of the work hasn't paid as well as gigs away from oDesk, it's worked well for me while I build up to properly paid gigs: I've just got my first one for years, after focusing mostly on mo

I think 8-5 is actually 8 hours in the US: federal laws guarantee you an hour lunch break, just as in the UK. Of course, I imagine in a lot of start-ups that's ignored or perhaps doesn't even hold.

So when recruiters contact me (Python, Seattle or telecommuting), what might I ask them to find out whether it's worth my time? I guess first I'd want to know all the things recruiters are influenced by or tend to do that I don't like, and

Employees in the US work some of the world's longest hours. And yet there these folks are in their office, playing games. Is that typical? I don't get it. Why stay in the office playing games when you could go home? I guess this is the sort

Nice one. This will help me avoid the sort of people who use Foursquare, or who like playing with their mobile devices while in art galleries. And, I'll assume, will help ensure I have plenty of opportunity to meet others like me.
