I get "Forbidden" for both those links. Are there any other links to those papers? I hadn't heard of this result and I'm very curious.

The whole argument here is based on the questionable assumption that coaches and players are actually trying to make decisions that maximize the team's score. An individual might do something that's "perceived to be less risky" because if i

He states in the comments that something like that would be "too intrusive". It's actually clear from the comments that he's become more fixated on the device he has in mind than in actually solving the problem.

To be fair, he says he made these predictions in 1996. The PalmPilot personal, which I would say was the first widely-used PDA didn't come out until 1997. From what I remember, there weren't really any commercially available 802.11 devices

I'm not sure that contradicts the author exactly. Higher unemployment, high GDP/capita, and net out migration suggests to me that a lot of lower and middle-class jobs have been lost in CA, while the higher-income jobs remain. And agreed, I

Like most 37signals articles, this presents a platitude backed by two examples. There are thousands of companies that succeed with the opposite strategy, and thousands that do something simple and fail. It's not even clear that Pinkberry su

Steve Job's bonus may have been $43 million, but John Paulson made $3.7 billion in 2007 -- it's not an executive bonus, but I think that excessive compensation, regardless of structure, is what people get annoyed about. These results are te

I believe these are just 2009 investment rounds... from what I understand, Tesla has actually raised close to $800 million total if you count debt financing. Twitter's is still less than $200 million total.

There are already plenty of things that can't be enforced by contract. You can't sell yourself into slavery, for instance, because the state isn't allowed to make sure you submit to your agreement. As another commenter said, sign whatever y

I was also annoyed by that -- the implication seems to be that atheists are necessarily cold, calculating and logical. I don't find that accepting the existence of emotions in decision making has any impact on my religious beliefs.

I also live in a rent-controlled apartment in SF. I'm not sure what the particular policy in Boston is, but here they can increase the rent by 3%/year (I think) while I live there. After I leave, they can reset it to whatever they like. So,
