So are you saying that the offset of 1 Earth/soccer ball radius is helping or hurting? It’s still seems to me like it’s just getting in the way. (Though I guess the ant wouldn’t see much of anything if it was down in the grass.)

That is interesting… but to my intuition, it seems like that would have the opposite effect? You are offset in the “wrong” direction, ie the sun and the moon are further “down” and more obscured by the earth? I might be thinking all wrong a

This piece is not actually about the button, but about the image stabilization. It’s just part of an article series called “Button of the month”.

It’s easy[1] to open a new tab and forget about it. There’s no specific time or prompt to revisit it and make a decision to close or keep it except when your machine gets slow. 1: That is an understatement - easy as in, 100% automatic and

Just today I learned that Nick Berry of https://datagenetics.com/ passed away recently. I guess that is slightly off topic but I wanted to share, I’ve been following his excellent blog for many years.

Those are some very poor comparisons. Maybe if someone is claiming that dark mode or light mode have long-term effects on your health, but what people are actually claiming is just that they find one or the other more comfortable. There’s n

That might sound convincing to someone who already prefers working on the backend, but you can basically invert your statement to describe a typical serverless setup: “You need a frontend anyways. Shifting to a client-side codebase is elimi

It’s funny how mixing pure blue (#0000ff) with pure white (#ffffff) makes it look a little purple, and how you also have the exact same problem when you invert the colors - mixing pure yellow (#ffff00) with pure black (#000000) makes it loo

That seems very different, as those cohorts are based on actual personal data (correct me if I’ve misunderstood this about FLoC). That’s fundamentally different from a counter I think.

Consider that there’s some long tail of visitors who visit many times in one day. Someone is going to be visiting more times than anyone else, whether that’s 10 or 100 or 1000 page views. That person is now uniquely trackable. To avoid that

That’s pretty clever. I think if you really want to keep it privacy respecting, you should stop counting at 1 - so you can distinguish the first vs subsequent visits, but you can’t tell if someone has visited 2 or 200 times.
