Can they include a pleasant "walking" noise (or something more abstract) so that it isn't sneaking up on you all the time? It looks a bit too sneaky in this video.

With this specific example, it doesn't seem like that's the case. The best it can do is give you a list of restaurants based on your speech input, and then ask you to select one with your finger.

I'm currently a student at Wesleyan, and seeing this article was awfully surprising to me. If we really do rule the tech scene in one of the largest cities in the US, I certainly wouldn't know it from being here. Our CS department is tiny (

This looks great! I think it's really important to show that these devices expand creative potential, rather than just fretting about the loss of paper books. Something minor: in the slideshow with all the effects, the 3D effect implied by

It's definitely not typical HN fare, but I think privacy and one's rights pertaining to media are very relevant to the web and of concern to many readers on HN.

A little! I've really wanted to get into Supercollider but... haven't had the time. Do you have any suggestions for other resources/software I should look into?

Thanks. I've definitely considered the possibility of going back to school somewhere else after I graduate to pursue a tech education more aligned with my own goals, maybe immediately after. Perhaps the answer to this question would be a li

I would totally go for a minor if my school offered them, but they don't, instead making it slightly easier to double major (about a third of students do so). I've yet to have an assignment that was too far beyond a proof of concept. Studen

Yeah, this sort of "what if" thinking can be really hard. Thus far, all my employment opportunities have come from resources outside of school, and I have no reason to believe that that will change anytime soon, but as you mentioned... thes

Thanks for the note. I certainly don't think I can make it on my own - I don't really feel prepared for "the real world" (as if you've never heard a 20 year old say that) - but the classes that remain to be taken in the CS program, especial

You commented before my edit, but everything you've said is still very relevant. Thanks. The thing about the big, gnarly programs thing is that I don't think that's what happens at our CS department. The older kids in the department always

It's possible, but having access to Zipcar is quite essential for pretty much anything outside of the city limits - rail expansion was severely hampered by some nearby suburbanites who were afraid that the worst of the city was going to tak

Entertaining, but I really think it's as simple as: all computer programs read data, manipulate data, or output data. Internet startups create one kind of computer program. Text is one kind of data.

I think this comparison is slightly exaggerated, as people experience social networks in a completely different way. Going into using Google+, I expected it to have the look and feel of other Google products that I use and enjoy. I was not

Wow - I've never seen a cleaner font browsing interface, and they make using the fonts you look at so easy I didn't even realize I was doing it. Let's hope the Web Fonts API doesn't go the way of the Translate API, or many webpages will be

I don't think there's any reason not to try to improve something even if its satisfactory. Image formats are no exception - I don't think JPEG is the best that can be done and I hope we have better options moving forward.

I think this conclusion is less obvious than it first appears, and to suggest that it is some sort of grand scheme on the part of Pixar is a little bit ridiculous. I would say that the human/non-human interaction comes from trying a formula
