I decided to switch back to analog headphones that don’t require firmware updates from proprietary apps only available on Android/iOS with tracking built in. You can’t get much simpler than inserting a wire into a jack—and as a bonus w

Most of the games now are always online and some of them opt for home-grown, Microsoft Windows-only kernel anti-cheat detection rather than working with the bigger engines that Valve worked with to get said anti-cheat systems running on Lin

This part sucks. I would rather save my $100 and not give a dime of that money to Microsoft, but in this country I was not allowed to order a laptop without it despite wasting more than $100 in folks’ time trying to reach someone who would

This is why you should do more CSS with rems and respecting the user agent's size so it's easier for folks to get the size they want (this article's author used ems and defaults though)

I'm a bit concerned about this as previously we'd build communities in chat but now the chat is just with the bot. Not wasting folks' time is great, but you'll miss out on the social parts by not asking around the IRC,

Include phones to this list of general compute devices. The 2–3 year support of Android phones is a joke, but increasing it to 5 years is just a kick of the can rather than a solution. When an OEM’s support ends, firmware should be required

It’s a shame to see cash going away in some places. The alternatives are too traceable & used to sell your purchasing behaviors, & I’m not keen on that. We’re talking about the security of our phone’s data, but then giving up on our

You also have to deal with proprietary drivers. This can be mostly alright until it's not. Look at the hidden costs of dealing with Nvidia for Wayland for instance. CUDA lock-in is like DirectX lock-in. It should be preferable to h

Third-party CDN usage like this isn’t a best parctice generally if it can be avoided because it involves users need to trust more parties and leaks user data to those sources. With the advent of assets being isolated a couple of years ago,

A lot of folks seem to forget to question the bigger picture, instead of questioning "how do I get less spam?" you can ask "do I need this service?". If a service is giving you garbage and little value, just throw it in

Please do this at build time instead of shipping to clients. You'll slow down page rendering, introduce a repaint, and now require a script. Considering all browsers will be doing the exact same execution, it's needlessly wasteful
