Somebody needs to dig this up and apply it to an open FPGA toolchain like ICEstorm. The other SA article on this was The Darwin Chip which I think went into more detail. One of the limitations was the lack of documentation for the actual b

How well would MIRI work as a generic virtual machine for fairly simple stuff. Essentially I want to compile some type-safe code from a file and run it in a safe way inside of another Rust application. I'm looking at various lua bindin

You can use a tuple in that case, as in: if let (Some(a), Some(b)) = (check(param0)), check(param1)) { ... } else { ... }

As long as they name them consistently really, you would just need to provide custom transform/pattern rules if they could not be detected. I might work out a prototype of this once I get my framework off the ground.

This is something I've long believed. A Data Style Sheet to go along with the raw HTML and CSS. You could even make it as designer-friendly as JQuery while still building modern isometric SPAs as output. For example: #users { fro

Hmm, ask Equifax how simple file upload is. It's actually a pretty complex problem to solve securely, leading to scripts that try to support every configuration including off-the-shelf PHP hosting. An ideal would be something like S3 w

Great question. So I'm kind of obsessed with this problem, believing that programmers in our society could be dedicated to much more than building the same application over and over again. If your page is a listing of items (could be e

Are you referring to exploits in the modifications made to kernel source or to something underlying in the hardware or bootloader that is exposed by looking at kernel source. Are they actually making GPL source availible for their kernels?

Can this be tested on consumer level Broadcom SoCs like Linksys routers? It would be an interesting approach to hardening them, by eliminating the OS and much of the attack surface. This might require that it support wireless frames though,

It would be kind of cool to see a `go gen`-syntax based Go + generics implemented in Rust. Another thing that has been attempted is a stdlib for Rust that uses syscalls into the kernel much like Go's.

This is more a reflection of where the compiler is at, not the language. As a compiled, strongly-typed language without a GC, there is no theoretical reason why Rust could not be faster than C++. As the use of MIR and HIR (two intermediate
