You’ll never stop paying. Pick rent or property taxes. Obviously property taxes are less than rent in your typical case. But it’s not even an order of magnitude difference

I don't know where you live, but there are a lot of investor type buyers who buy with no on site visit or inspection. Or generally don't mind taking on the site improvement issues. You may also be able to get a deal in place where

I think the 'what is being done for the old parents' is them not having to confront and part with their stuff while they're old but alive. By doing this after they have passed, they get to bypass this possibly mentally taxing
