Ubuntu is the most common, most widely used Linux based OS. It's the "Windows" of Linux, for good or ill. Most hardware and software vendors primarily target it. It might not be hip, but it's what everyone knows.

Which is the sane thing to do. Valve should just partner with Canonical and release Ubuntu support. Let the other distros figure out how to get it working there.

I've never used the cellular stuff in my laptops because it's easy enough to use my phone's connection. No need to pay for two connections.

Inverse square law. What would be more interesting is miniaturized reactors.

I'd say the scary thing is that Westinghouse (who designed and built that reactor) is now owned by private equity.

The entire universe runs on nuclear power. I'd be surprised if we found something much better, but who knows what the future brings.

Yeah but newer designs like GE's newer ESBWR are designed to passively shutdown if there's a failure. The reactor used at Fukushima and many other places go haywire in a worst case failure scenario (like a massive earthquake and t

Toyota dominated the small, cheap eco car segment and started building SUVs and Trucks. Big US auto moves so slowly, they’re always playing catch-up. Time for them to die and be reorganized.

I suppose it's an accomplishment but it's not really creating a new market or revolutionizing an existing one. Also Facebook has only been top dog for a little over 10 years.

Facebook's never done anything great or prescient. They were just at "the right place, at the right time" to be MySpace 2.0.

It's by Lockheed (like the F-22) and we spent crazy amounts of money on it, why the hell is the F-35 deficient here?

by tmccrary55 5y ago
True but I'd take sore hands over a sore neck and back any day.

Neat but it seems like your neck would pay a price. The voice commands are also cool but needing to pause between each one seems like a huge drawback, compared to typing where I can just blaze through.

They're both a huge pain in the ass. But it's easier to scratch C than C++.

Google doesn't control Linux. I guess a microkernel is pretty cool though, the academic ideal.

Good thing trusty google never changes direction or policies and that fuschia is copyleft, so it can never be closed in the future.

Entangled particles are stored in the same quantum register. When there are two references and it’s read, the systems says nope can’t do that and it unlinks them.

While I much prefer debuggers, I've never had a print statement "crash" and stop working. But I've had debugger crashes or weirdness where they stop working in every language and debugger option I've ever used (gdb,

I'm really hoping Alder Lake or a similar AMD product gets PC closer to M1+ performance and battery consumption. The M1 chip is amazing but I'm a tiling window manager man.
