I agree but here you have to spend a lot more and do a lot of paperwork to connect to the grid; easier to just go off. But yes, you are right.

I know there are many happy people not drinking or using drugs and that’s great. I wish I would’ve been one. But of all students, 1/3rd seems very hard to not have any (most or significant) of those 100ks in the article to do something

What Great Things are you doing instead? I know it sounds nasty but so does your comment; what else that moves any needle but your own are you doing?

Good for them; hope they are happy. Very much doubt that unfortunately. Something will take the place of drinks most likely. Hope it’s healthier but also doubt that.

I read it as history, as I see anything religious; interesting folklore and history.

Where I live (Portugal) I already did many winters with solar when renting; I had the generator on a few hours 1 day in 1 year, the rest was enough sun to make it work. Same in Spain when I lived there.

I am happy I got solar earlier this year. I thought it would be very expensive but we are very frugal with energy and it only was 7k euro to go off grid. During the day we can run anything (tons of sun so washing, dish washing, etc etc), du

Yeah, the things like standby and hibernation and touchscreen are major issues especially in new laptops. But I never use these features myself. Guess I got used to it. Which devices (specifically) do you have? I might have one or both or k

There are often things that do not work under Linux on different laptops and it depends on what you need and expect. However, consistently over many laptops (I am a computer hoarder and have 100s of laptops), after running my post install s

You can of course but there are rules that you need to follow for the tax office; if they mark you as defacto employee in NL for a US company, different taxation applies. You are marked as not an entrepreneur or company in that case and you

Not my rules or ideas… if you try to invoice different companies to get around defacto employee rules we have here, then it is fraud; you probably won’t get caught. It’s not fraud ‘for me’, it is for the tax office of my country and, as oth

If there is anything I have learned in life so far (I am close to 50), it is that my first gut feeling when meeting someone irl is pretty much spot on. I have ignored this feeling when it was negative and it never worked and I have ignored

Also not actually that easy to be hired in another EU country without moving. If you work from another country, the employer will have to create or contract with an entity in your country that hires and pays you. It is a real pain; it is a

Yeah, in NL and UK and probably others, you would need to have a company with multiple clients to be not seen as employee.

Yep, in many places you would need multiple clients to prevent being seen as an de facto employee.

Also good to say; many singles or child free couples can change their timezone to match their client. I changed from US to SG and back a few times over the past 10 years while living in the EU. It was actually quite nice; asia was better be

You would be working as a freelancer right? Or will they use some agency to hire you? Freelance senior PHP dev would be 90-100/hr in the EU so 180k-200k. If it’s via an agency, you will need to do more calculations with social security
