I think this is where Microsoft isn't getting a fair shake. Half of the iPhone features require a gesture. If it wasn't for talking to people and 'cheat sheets' no one would know how to search, kill apps, set the orientation, move apps, uni

They spoke to this quite a bit during the BUILD conference. In short, Microsoft is expecting that the days of computers - all computers - having a screen you can't touch are going to come to an end. We're going to look at non touch-sensitiv

I'm not sure if everyone noticed the last comment on this article: http://screencast.com/t/Nobted7zv5z Posted "almost 8 years ago" ie. posterous would appear to have the same vulnerability.

This is really a fantastic idea... partners should be lining up. More and more services have http hook support, but I'm sure people don't want to (or don't know how to) run a server just to turn, say, a json callback into an e-mail that goe

100% agree. If this is what they spent time on, as opposed to the fact that, say, 'find' is dog-slow and doesn't reliably cancel, or that copy/paste randomly stops working, or that it has a tendency to hang several times a day... well, I j

Before a trip I went on a month ago, I grabbed the downloadable html version. It was an absolute lifesaver, and made my plane rides 10x more productive. Many thanks to those who put it together.

The new auth dialog resolves a number of the fundamental problems described in this article, namely the second step where the user can individually reject extended permissions: http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/578/ http://develop

I mostly agree with you but there's a touch of real world value here... I mean, once you start adding code to 'hello world' it's not going to get faster. So, if you have an app with some stringent perf requirements, this would tell you i

I'm quite surprised to see the PHP frameworks near the bottom... any ideas on why that is? As much as I love Rails, I would not have expected it to beat any mainstream PHP framework in this type of test.

My startup operates in this space ( http://venpop.com ) and we see this kind of thing all the time. One of the biggest problems is that the hype of Social Commerce has driven large, big-name players to make large, big-dollar bets on the sp

For most people, the URLs these jobs are hitting will be calling code that they themselves have written, is that right? If so, since I'm writing a bunch of code to do work, the marginal cost of dropping a call to that code into cron is awfu

Assuming from the name this was a monitoring app: 1) http://mon.itor.us/ has a free version, and it's decent but very infrequent (ex. 30 minutes) 2) NewRelic RPM has ping-based monitoring included in even their free plan (and it's ping in

Right, they'd have to go to court and be found guilty of copying this copy-written work... I guess you're right that it's not guaranteed, but it's hard to imagine this wouldn't be a slam dunk.

In the case of technological products, make no mistake: the consumer does not want products to last 10 years. You can surely run a 10 year old computer, but what are you going to do with it? Does anyone want a 5 year old cell phone? So l

In this scenario it's equivalent to all of the founders quitting, shutting the company down, and going to work for Google, right? Ie. Google didn't buy / shouldn't own any of the company's assets?

I think Molly could fairly blame the apps and not Facebook. This flow (prompting for permission before a user accesses your app) is completely optional. You can still use the new graph APIs and not do this. In my opinion, this flow makes

Everyone on this thread knows that there is no technical reason to split the ratings. It's implausible that a company of this size couldn't break that subsystem into a shared service. The reason for the split has to be business-related, and

Assuming this wasn't some sort of kickback, doesn't the willingness to pay contractors £2k per day while shedding full-timers suggest that there is something absolutely crippling about the terms for full time employment? Is it regulation?
