One thing: The 2^28-1 size limit on integers in emacs lisp also impacts max file size. You can't load a file larger than 256MB on a 32-bit version of emacs. However, a 64-bit emacs will support larger integers and file sizes.

> The even better news is that support for this is already arriving - Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Safari have already rolled out HTML 5 support and other browsers won’t be far behind. If we ignore Internet Explorer, will it disappear?

You're wrong: every decent product is a platform. Photoshop and GIMP have plugins developed on top of them, and professional designers are very much reliant on "photoshop the platform" for their existence.

It also has shitty performance. 32-bit emacs on my windows machine at work can't open a 300 MB text file for analysis. Turns out that 32-bit emacs uses a 28-bit pointer (256 MB file size limit, 64-bit emacs handles up to 1 million TB). S

I'm not sure why this is being downvoted. The flash that the article links to explaining the integer knapsack problem sounds horrible.

Unfortunately, Wine simply cannot compete with the performance of Windows games running on their native platform (again, “yet”). My World of Warcraft install would disagree. I get higher framerates in WINE operating off from the same ins

2. Books can have some taxonomy data. For example, I could see a list of main characters which were presented in the book until the page I have read. I can see their short description, their relationship, or even where are they currently.

It's an interesting argument, but if you make it a file, will the system know that: cat file1 > proc/mail/coworker@company.com cat file2 > proc/mail/coworker@company.com are two separate messages?

Packages for clojure and slime exist. We really just need the package to bridge them. Also, ELPA support is decent now (mentioned already).

This just enforces that I'm going to wait for an "iPad Mini", (7"-ish screen possibly smaller when you factor in the border used on the iPad). Star Trek didn't really have to think about user interface, but they needed actors to be able co

Read the comments from: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/roc/archives/2010/01/video_fr... Robert's opinion is that flash is equally evil, but dropping it would be even more damaging than never supporting h.264, so the damage is already done

Isn't the TCO problem largely a non-issue? My understanding is that if you do (defn function [...] ... (recur ...)) instead of (defn function [...] ... (function ...)) the compiler handles it for you.
