I highly recommend biting the bullet and reading through Pro Git by Scott Chacon (from Github). http://progit.org/book/ It's about 200 pages but it really, really helped me internalize how git works. Each git feature/command is explained

For what it's worth these topics are taught in university to a certain extent. I took a class last semester where we had to write an assembler and virtual machine for MIPS (in C), had exams on branch prediction, instruction pipelining, prog

As far as I've seen, the de facto convention is to have a BRK mnemonic with a total instruction value of 0x0000. It has the nice property of causing a halt when uninitialized memory is executed.

Dude seriously this is awesome. Good work. DCPU-16 is perfect for learning about all these cool aspects of computer science. It's so stripped down (lacking, for example, instruction pipelining) that it's easy to get into and see what's goin

This is so cool! Just finished my implementation and it runs the fib example flawlessly†! https://github.com/tkahn6/dcpu16-haskell/ † Because mine is a pure state machine and Haskell is lazy, I had to introduce a HLT instruction instead o

It's also easy to throw down tropes that are so general that they have a good chance of applying to the point you're supposed to be making, no critical thought required. Like this example given by pg in http://ycombinator.com/howtoapply.ht

This is actually really cool in that it occupies a space between Haskell and Python. It seems excessively verbose at the moment but hopefully that will sort itself out in the end.

In my experience the institution itself (the state-mandated curriculum, the teachers, other students) is the limiting reagent, not the individual student who wants a meaningful education. There's only so much you can do when everyone around

I actually did this in Chrome by just opening up the developer console, clicking on the Resources tab, and modifying the value directly. You'll see Local Storage under Databases in that tree on the left.
