I thought I had read something along those lines in a GNU document, but I believe I found what I was thinking of on Stallman's personal web site: I firmly refuse to install non-free software or tolerate its installed presence on my co

I think the GNU response is more subtle than "boycott it". In particular, I do not get the impression that GNU opposes someone using software that runs on someone else's server machine in general . One obvious example would

I recently got back home from a trip to Alaska. While I hauled a couple of SLR cameras, bag of lenses, and tripod, around with me, I also took a bunch of pictures with my iPhone XS. The iPhone pictures were pretty impressive, but for exactl

I (and many other people at my company) still have a phone at my desk. There are still phones in hotel rooms, and restaurants, and sundry other places. Most people may no longer have land-line phones at their houses, but the concept certain

True, but even then, your best camera is the one you have with you. I have a nice Canon DSLR setup, but appreciate good camera quality from my phone, because even if I don't have my camera with me, I almost always have my phone.

I've seen a lot of Ada code in aerospace projects, but the trend for 15+ years seems to be to write new projects in something else (usually C or C++), and sometimes even rewrite old Ada software. In this industry, knowing Ada could sti

I do feel that I get more out of spending 30 minutes reading a book than I do out of 30 minutes browsing Twitter. Despite how addictive it is (and thus how much some part of me apparently enjoys it), I think I prefer pretty much any activit

The Chick-fil-a chicken tenders taste okay enough on their own, but they really don't taste like the nuggets or the chicken on the sandwich. Like it's a different coating, different seasoning. Not sure why. I like Popeye's ju

I still buy some new books, but almost all books I have bought for ~10 years have been from Thrift Books (or some other similar seller). Great way to build a library. Many desirable books, often in like-new condition.

Outside temperature is pretty impressive indeed. The map also shows projected flight plan and ETA, which would not come purely from GPS.

The subsystem that connects in-flight entertainment to anything on the flight deck (assuming an intended one-way, read-only connection) would probably be Level D. I would guess that that subsystem is in error here.

Connecting entertainment systems to flight control sounds very wrong. Connecting entertainment systems to flight management would be common; it should be one-way communication (entertainment can only read FMS data, not send any), for th
