I love John Siracusa's OS X reviews, but they too are subjective, like all reviews are. Saying a person's opinion is subjective is like saying he or she has a perspective . Everybody has a perspective, you can't escape yours. A review ca

An objective review is an oxymoron. All opinions are subjective by their very nature.

Being first is about as useful as saying "first!" and there is zero value in "coming out of nowhere". What matters is creating something great. The iPhone turned the industry on its head. Palm did not.

It's more important to be good than to be first. Otherwise Microsoft would be the king of tablets right now.

I agree, but on the other hand, Dan always says "it's your show" whenever they need to make a decision about something. Dan also often refrains from correcting or informing Gruber at times when he's unsure or is wrong about something, much

No you wouldn't, because it would suck. Touch interfaces would suck to use with a mouse, since they are touch interfaces. And mouse driven interfaces would suck to drive with your touch, since they are designed to be used with a mouse .

The iPad is a lot more than a regular PC with an ARM processor. Had you suggested that, and some foolish HP exec would have believed you, then it would have failed catastrophically. The ARM processor is not the magic juice that made the iPa

An iPhone has never been released at a WWDC before. So no. The WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) is aimed at developers , so it's not the right forum for major hardware releases. I'm pretty sure the mainstream media won't be prese

Sounds good. I just want to add that sometimes it's not about "wanting to write closed source apps", sometimes it's more complicated than that. Like, the app integrating with other systems that can't be GPL'ed, or just lawyers not willing t

Square and Apple seems like a great cultural fit. But I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell Apple is even mildly interested in acquiring them, as it would make zero business sense to do so. And the feeling is probably mutual.

I agree, but I think that is a double edged sword. Let me give you an example: some people write off Apple by saying they didn't "invent" the tablet. Right, they "only" make the first one anyone was willing to buy. They "only" caused a seis

I'm not even a little bit upset about CEOs trash talking each other. I'm sure Gruber doesn't care either. Not sure what lead you to believe that. Observing something happening and writing about that doesn't mean that it upsets you, or tha

He doesn't have a problem with Gates's statement, he has a problem with Isaacson's lack of research. Gates didn't write the book, Isaacson did. This is just one example where Jobs says something true, Isaacson thinks he's lying and instead

I agree with Gruber, but I'd like to add that these are not small errors on Walter Isaacson's part. They're huge errors. The biggest errors any biography author could make about Steve Jobs. Why? Why are we even interested in reading a bio

The objection is that the standardization process is too slow. Not a little bit too slow, but so glacially slow it's almost indistinguishable from abandonment. So, progress of key web technologies needs to be put into vendors's hands. CSS b

That wouldn't be a problem if the non-vendored variants of the CSS attributes didn't take so god damn long to become proper standards. The problem is not the webkit vendor attributes, the problem is that proper standards aren't able to keep

I honestly don't think Apple set out to kill flash. They just chose to not support Flash, like they also don't support a bunch of other browser plugins. All of them, in fact. Had others not made such a big fuss about it, Apple's mobile devi

Yeah, but then using apps would quickly descend into a horrible mess of deny/accept, confusing and scaring the user. The pop-up hell of windows would pale in comparison. You'd have solved the problem, but created a horrible user experience

I think Bill Gates was every bit as ruthless as Jobs was. But Bill had his enormous success earlier in life, stepped down from his company earlier, and was thus ahead. Despite being the same age, they were in very different stages of li
