I had a really similar experience after I quit my corporate job. As a lot of people here have noted before, it's a lot easier to get into the startup mentality if you've left the corporate world and contracting works for you. Anyway, congra

I haven't read much about this, but I don't see how AT&T can justify charging you for the base station hardware as well as its continued use. If using the device does not use any of their services or network and is ONLY between your cel

The sessions are under NDA until such a time as Apple decides to release their content - this is mostly a formality, so that they can have their preview, but still have an official release later. This is what happened with both Safari5 and

Alternatively, I hope Apple is furious, and working as hard as they can to get iphones on other carriers. While I'm sure the exclusivity made the initial release easier for Apple, a lot of customers are waiting to get an iphone on a differe

If you're willing to sift through the noise you'll find something worthwhile and people that will respect you for the work you do. Craigslist isn't my first choice, but it is reliable; lots of people use it everyday.

As another former Apple employee that left for a startup, I feel compelled to say congratulations and good luck. Hope you enjoy your new life! (on topic) Meetups and events are perfect ways to find job opportunities, as long as you're willi

I laughed when it occurred to me that, since their parser only accepts variables named after a character from a play, Shakespeare programs are limited by having a finite number of variables and storage, but laughed even harder when reading

The mac mini is more than a reasonable machine for development. I use it for gaming, design work in CS4 and development, when I don't feel like using my laptop. That would mean that the 'tax' is only $500, or cheaper if you get it refurbish

I don't follow, how is increasing the cost to terminate your service going to solve the problem of there already being too many people on your network? At best this will keep the problem from getting worse, but not solve it in the least. At

I'm just going to hope that this means Apple is releasing an iphone with Verizon, or Sprint. This is a really nasty way to fight customers going to Android phones.

I ran into the exact same problem when trying to solve some (not very complicated in retrospect) errors in a body of text. Shallow copying a string that I was applying permutations to and storing in an array meant that every single string i

I doubt either facebook or developers would be willing to expose their developer credentials / keys on a (mostly) publicly readable page. Embedding it into the app itself seems like the most reasonable solution.

I'm not sure that's true actually. The vast majority of users I've seen find a client and stick with it. While power users will probably get annoyed by the ads and find a new one, I suspect an average user will learn to cope, or simply stop

There are lots of people hard at work on security, but does anyone really think about trustworthiness or authenticity w.r.t. websites? It seems to me that doing a quick google search for one of these 'elite' sites would turn up a few review

I wonder how long it will take for these phones to get support for 3rd party apps. While it would really be great to see more affordable (think non-luxury) smart phones, the iphone and nexus one both demonstrate that people need and want ap

This is really cool, here's hoping people add some more projects. It would be great to have a place where people can go to find projects and problems to work for a bit. I've contributed to a few open source projects before, but the problem

Great story about sticking to your ideals, and how to manage growth. I think it's amazing how easy it is to enter the food business compared to selling software. If you make food, someone will be hungry and buy it. If you make software, the

So you'd say that any object without mass does not exist? Perhaps you'd like to brush up on photons and gauge bosons. The author was no more saying that an object with negative mass is non-existent than a debt is a hole in your wallet. Nega
