While I didn't actually launch anything, I did make a lot of progress on two separate apps: One to facilitate collaborative tabletop games (think Settlers of Cataan or Dungeons & Dragons) between remote parties. Built with node.js, redi

That actually is fairly similar to a webapp I built in 30 minutes a few months ago. I had the idea to build a webform that lets you type in some text, and the computer reads it back. If you are using OS X, you should be able to use the `say

I believe it's more that they are a visible target, being in the media and spreading their message as much as they do. Were they a small company that hosted internal webapps (for example) they probably wouldn't have been targeted as much. I

Not sure why you're being downvoted, (aside from the fact that this doesn't look very similar at all), but this looks suspiciously like some of mrdoob's javascript canvas examples. http://mrdoob.com/125/Multiuser_Sketchpad_HTML5

Very cool! Great presentation, I really like the design on the web (haven't had a chance to test it out on the ipad yet). I've been working on the exact same idea as a minor feature for a larger webapp, although with node.js and redis. Out

I suspect this is an artifact from their stance on mutable state, and some inspiration from more functional languages. There certainly isn't much harm in being clear where you are initializing variables. I would say that using actual englis

This should probably be updated to point to the w3 proposal document, but I'm interested. For a while now I've wanted to have this functionality, but short of using flash (or sticking yet another backend server between processes) this has

I'm not an expert, but I believe this to be correct - the contents of the canvas elements are created/managed by javascript, so they would likely appear empty to most spiders. Additionally, I don't believe there is any good way to crawl the

Great advice. I've long suspected that great programmers like Knuth and Wozniak moved into a teaching role to help themselves continue to learn, and question the world around them, as well as to give back to the community and help new gener

I figure this is more like a secret handshake. Presumably anyone reading news at news.ycombinator.com will have an inherent interest in companies that YC invests in. Not that (YC W10) is a very subtle signal, but it's signaling something

It may be an unpopular opinion, but sometimes it's nice to have multiple companies competing in the longterm, and for the market leader to struggle to keep their lead. If ask.com and bing.com move out of the search space or turn off the lig
