Welcome to our dumb dystopia. Like a 90s hacker action flick, but with crappier graphics and tools with even worse functionality.

The story of how they actually first measured the distance to the Sun is quite fascinating. They timed the transit Venus and used Kepler's laws to figure out the rest. https://phys.org/news/2015-01-distance-sun.h

My favorite is "your privacy is important to us" as the first sentence of a huge ToS that absolutely shreds your privacy. Of course privacy is important to them, it's how they make all their damn money. Don't worry, they

That's fundamentally a humanist argument. What about all the other intricate little forms of life we snuff out thoughtlessly? And I don't mean the ones we directly eradicate either due to killing them off or eating them all, but

Always worth remembering that before Earth existed it was a meaningless dust cloud created by the unimaginable power of exploding stars, and after that, it spent nearly 3 billion years as a lifeless rock. So if we accidentally nuked it to a

People can't even be bothered to come up with a title for a product listing? We are truly screwed. Maybe they generated it from images and a script, but honestly, how freaking lazy are people these days?

I know, but the safety guarantees of Wasm are established by validating the code first. The sidetable that Wizard's interpreter used is small enough (about 1/3 the side of the original code) it could fit in a hardware cache along-

The fundamental dynamic that ruins every technology is (over-)commercialization. No matter what anyone says, it is clear that in this era, advertising has royally screwed up all the incentives on the internet and particularly the web. Where

With a pre-pass on the bytecode (e.g. during verification), one can compute a side data-structure that makes it possible to interpret Wasm without tracking the control stack dynamically. It works surprisingly well.

No, PNaCl used LLVM initially and was working on a faster compiler internally (SubZero) before we refocused efforts on Wasm. You might be referring to the effort to port V8's compiler(s) to emit sandboxed code, but that was never merge

Andy is spot-on, as usual. Wasm is a software-defined abstraction boundary, possibly the most bullet-proof software-defined abstraction boundary yet to date, given the formal specification and machine-checked proofs of correctness. It has m
