I lean towards agreeing with you. That said, people often confuse carbon dioxide removal with CCS. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) generally refers to "carbon neutral" technologies to pull carbon dioxide out of emissions. At some

Neat, I learned about copyleft thanks to this discussion. Will consider copyleft for my future projects! Open source that creates more open source.

I've had this thought too. And when I think about it in the big picture way, I don't think it doesn't need to be all that hard to solve. It's not like we're talking about like, you know, some huge slice of GDP or so

Working at the level of 80,000 people is a lot more effective than working at the level of an individual. Working on your own carbon footprint is a $100M marketing trick played on you by oil companies like BP. Leah Stokes' new book off

See my post above for book and event recs. And well said. For some context, "carbon footprint" and this idea of individual emissions actions to solve climate change started as a marketing campaign by British Petroleum. Even the te

You're right on the average. Almost every scenario has global GDP per capita higher in 2100 than today. Burke/Hsiang/Miguel [1] find poorest 40% of countries down ~75% and richest 20% up slightly. So "we get richer"

If someone knows how to unflag this, I'd appreciate it. I think this is a fair climate discussion and I'm happy to weigh in. Also, Eliot Jacobson is an active figure in climate science, so it's not just some rando's blog

A volcanic eruption by itself can trigger some cooling by reflecting a bunch of sunlight off the dust/gas that's in the volcano emissions. Those cooling periods last a couple years. In terms of having a longer cooling period with

This is why I always say my goal is "a stable climate and thriving human civilizations on Earth", because if your only criteria is a stable climate, well, then a nice big asteroid takes care of that for you.
