It's been 15 years since I worked on open source PCR machines, but has someone not figured out how to build a "one time use" disposable type qPCR test? A single test, not an instrument. There's no way these types of tests should be left up to lateral flow etc.
- lima 2mo agoLucira did that, but IMO it's quite wasteful. LAMP reactions don't need much, so it's best to make a cheap reader like Metrix or Pluslife so the tests can be less expensive.
- zygy 2mo agohow about Lucira?
- tito 2mo agoNeat, I hadn't seen those until now. I saw the kits were used for COVID, I wonder if they have a licensing platform to extend it to other tests. And I wonder what it takes to make the unit re-usable with a new test. Would be a cool project for bunnie to dismantle.
- lima 2mo agoBe careful with the dismantling, if it's a used test, you will likely end up with DNA amplicon contamination which is extremely hard to get rid of.
