Maybe this has something to do with the file indexer? 2 years ago I heard a lot of XP users complain that Windows was suddenly getting very slow. After some digging around I noticed that they turned on the file indexer by default after an u

I also like the way you spent the money. There are a lot of articles on HN about how to get rich. But you gave a nice example of loving your job and caring about society.

"What would this project need to achieve before folks would start switching?" Nothing. This is a full grown set of tools. So it's just a matter of taste. I switched from 3DsMax to Blender. There is nothing missing. The footprint is very s

In programs like Photoshop you can preview your design using color blindness filters (View > Proof Setup > Color Blindness). Another trick is to grayscale your design to check the contrast. This will help a lot to create a design th

Not so fast. This isn't something new or strange at all. We are doing this for years with great success. But maybe you know this method as these steps (which are the same): Concept -> Functional design -> Graphic design -> Build

Most people think that fasting is about not eating and drinking. This is wrong. It is about rethinking the life you live. It could be anything from not eating to stop using internet for a week of so. So why not call it hacking.

Ever heard about Thalidomide? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalidomide I think there are good reasons why we are careful with prescribing drugs. Take cocaine for example. Before 1900 they used it a lot. Even on children. But cocaine addic

Bad article. There is a lot more involved. The nerdier people among us could easily make a list of them. For example: air pollution, noise, fuel consumption and insurances. In Germany a lot of roads don't have a speed limit. But when you cr
