I imagine you know this already, but hey.com has this as a key feature. I've even seen an article or two about how to get Fastmail to do something similar, which I imagine would work for Gmail too, e.g. https://www.joshuawoo

Really exciting! I’ve been checking your blog every couple weeks waiting for this release. Does the global cluster architecture make it much harder to self-host supabase? Not that I plan to, but having the promise of portability is really i

I’ve searched far and wide for the best quick mobile capture tool over the years. The best I’ve found is Braintoss, which lets you record a voice note, then sends the transcription and the recording (in case the transcription was wrong) t

Aren’t you worried about your own domain getting flagged for spam since you’re effectively (forwarding) sending spam?

If you’re concerned about the security aspect of this, keep in mind that most web applications have this feature, but instead of calling it a magic link and for signing in, it’s called “forgot password.” It generates a short-lived code an

Great points! The deliverability (and delay) issue is the one I’ve found most challenging. For the others, here are some mitigations I’ve come across: - instead of single use tokens, set them to expire within 60 mins - to prevent spam/

I’d love to transfer my remaining domains to iwantmyname, but their 2fa uses SMS, so it’s subject to trivial SIM-swap attacks :( Considering my domain is used for my email address, that’s a huge issue.

Indeed. It’s frustrating that you can’t really object to it, as the company can just refuse to do business with you, and there aren’t viable alternatives who won’t do the same thing. Thus we have very unilateral contracts where the companie

But once the water becomes hot, you need to continue to heat it intermittently to keep it hot. So it’s only a water heater for a few minutes, after which point it becomes a hot water heater.

GTD (Getting Things Done) is definitely my answer. I use it for everything from planning my mom's birthday, to building features on an app, to managing a large team. The key is that it's a methodology and not a tool. It works just

Love pimsleur. I’ve used it for several languages. Only thing is it kind of leaves you at the intermediate level and I don’t know how to progress beyond that, apart from immersion.

Yes but you transmit the website password, so it’s possible for an attacker to gain access to that website through a data leak or through brute force, without gaining access to your password manager. Sure, they could do the same if they got

Indeed it does! And the key lies in separating “defining work” from “doing work.” GTD’s “get clear” process involves going through everything in your inboxes (not just email but physical papers etc), and determining what is the actual _next

It’s helpful to remember when reading these comments how overwhelmingly male the user base of HN is. Obviously whoever made this didn’t intend for it to replace a reference to “manual.” This is a silly bug. But the idea behind the project i
