> German Utility Patent 1,279,693 This one's pretty amazing to see, given how close it is in appearance to the Ergodox and other "glove keyboards" (rather, the other way around—they all resemble IBM's patent!). > B

I used Zed a decent amount before it started being too in-your-face with AI features. Glad to see an option to disable it all, but at this point, I’ve become so much more efficient with Helix than I am with any graphical IDE. I wouldn’t lov

While it's missing the concavity of either the Glove80 or the Maltron, I've been so happy with the Keyboardio's thumb cluster (and palm keys) that I'm more than willing to overlook that regression. The Keyboardio's

TFA is actually the first time I've seen the peasant railgun interpretation that actually causes damage. Other conversations I've seen all concluded it wouldn't do any damage, which made it even funnier depending on your poin

This seems nice. I'll play around with it tomorrow. One thing that would be cool to see is the ability to list the gear you have and get custom suggestions. For instance, instead of "medium-coarse", the app could know which g

Which APIs are limited? I feel like almost every app I use could easily be a website. They don't seem to do anything especially fancy.

This comment reminded me of a talk I saw[1] about Apple's password generation algorithm. Apparently (and unsurprisingly), they have a list of offensive terms the system is designed to avoid. I expect this is common-enough practice in m

While I doubt you’re unique in this, I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone say they hope there’s no such thing as free will. Can you explain why you hope everything is deterministic?

The problem is that almost everything, including basic web browsing, is straight-up worse on the iPad. Weird incompatibilities, sites that don’t honor desktop mode, tabs unloading from memory, random reloads, etc. all mar the experience.

I've installed the beta, and I really like how it looks and works. Like you said, it's not perfect, but I expect the small gripes I have so far will be ironed out before long.

Is Mario art? Putting that question aside: why should an artist be required to make their creations free for anyone to use after a certain period of time? Why are their wishes at best secondary? Now, to be clear: I am pro-emulation. If some

The backtick syntax for enums is rough, and typing out the full Type.case form negates one of Swift’s niceties (the ability to just type .case if the compiler can tell which enum is in use).

I've been looking forward to this since the original announcement (and before, really). On the modest codebase I tried it on (14k LOC across 126 files), it runs in 149ms compared to 1.66s in pyright (both run via uvx <tool>). I c

Pardons like that one really fuel the conspiracy theories about how many executive actions in the Biden admin, particularly toward the end, were really carried out by the former President.

Amazon often tries to show me a dress store. I’m a guy, and I’ve never bought women’s clothing. On the surface, the ad makes no sense and is irrelevant—but what if I end up wanting to buy a dress for someone else? Then I might remember that

Being a monopoly, in itself, isn’t illegal. The question is whether the company maintains its monopoly through illegal tactics or leverages that monopoly in illegal manners. (NYT really ought to add “illegal” to their title.)

It's also interesting to notice how often comedies are also tragedies. My favorite modern example is Dumb and Dumber . If you remove the comedic timing and absurdity, it's a depressing story! By the end, Harry and Lloyd are desti

I think this probably depends on your definition of "freedom". If you mean freedom as in movement, then yes, 3D games were freer. If you mean freedom as in game design, then I'm having a hard time coming up with contemporary
