It makes sense... when everything is going down, only the strongest, most innovative ideas will be able to rise to the top. If someone comes to you know pitching 'Digg, but for XX and YY' you're going to laugh, but when someone shows you a

I avoid anything I have to pay for as far as software goes, but just the other day I paid for a license of TextMate. Why? Because it was an excellent piece of software, and it saved me a TON of time. My point is, it can be very hard to ge

Wow... and iPhone (or Android) app could be great for this! Start the app, snap a pic and send it in with details about location and everything. It would certainly put the site in front of a lot more people as well.

Blackboard is HIDEOUS and bloated. I'd love to see someone dethrone them.

Ugh... I know it's a site for programmers, but would it have broken the budget to hire a designer? I can't tell what anything is at first glance and it all looks jumbled to me.

I'm 18 years old, and I live and die on my computer day in and day out. And yet, for all of my college classes I take notes with pen and paper. It's insane to think that a child would be able to get by in school without decent handwriting

Yet another post stating something is flawed, yet giving no suggestions as to how to fix it. Yes, openID is flawed, but until someone thinks of a better way, I think it's good enough.

The 'wtf' vibe is also generating all kinds of noise about the ad. Every Mac related website in my RSS feed had an article about it, and it's on every news site I visit. The average consumer may be slightly confused, but the internet larg

This doesn't make any sense... the information is already out there, and by holding up this ridiculous gag order, they're simply bringing MORE attention to the issues!

I agree... I've seen a lot of very poor quality links making it to the front page and (I guess because I'm a jerk) I'd like to be able to downvote stuff thats clearly off topic/low quality.

Proofread something once yourself and after that don't. Pass it along to any new set of eyes you can get and get a new perspective on it. Your eyes will fail you very quickly, so getting new people will make anything you write better by a

It seems to me though that posting something like XKCD is simply for getting Karma. It's not like the people who read it don't already check every monday, wednesday and friday morning... or is that just me?

I'd say weight the pros and cons of each and try to do what will feel the most fulfilling for yourself, rather than judge purely on merits. If you can afford to, you might go ahead on a startup, even if you fail you'll gain great experienc

Facebook is the LAST person I want handling all of my logins. I like that with OpenID I can use my own domain, or any of a host of providers and not have to worry about Facebook knowing every site I use, and how I use it.

I think the problem that Vimeo has been having is that users have to wait (sometimes HOURS) for their videos to be encoded. I think that this is a step towards fixing that.

I'm not saying all debt is bad, in fact I have a decent amount of debt towards my college education. However I manage it responsibly. Debt as a necessity is one thing, paying $750k for a house because your bank will loan it to you is poor
