Yeah, they raised over $19,000 the first day, panicked and called their lawyer, but they've determined it doesn't violate any SEC laws, so it's back up and moving.

Anecdotally, the place I work has people with wide screen, 19inch monitors that insist on using them at 800x600. It looks awful, but they're used to it being huge, and they refuse to change.

I've been holding on to 'isby.us' for a rainy day. Back when I bought it I had aspirations of a sort of hybrid Video/Audio/Blog news center of average people. I never really got far with it though, and now I'm not sure what to do with it.

So much nerd rage and finger pointing in the comments there... really makes me dislike being a rails developer. I love RoR, but sometimes I really feel like the 'community' is just awful...

Having recently discovered smalltalk from a seasoned developer (with quite a personality to match!), I've come to realize it's an amazing language, and certainly not dead. It's got some very interesting applications in finance, and other h

I'll be honest, I thought it was on topic because I enjoy these types of stories on Hacker News, as well as the discussion. I rarely submit stories unless I think they will generate good discussion. If you want to define a 'topic' for thi

It seems funny, to me, that they would talk about making Google do the legwork. If this took effect, Google could simply do nothing -- and watch as the people who forced them to 'come negotiate' crumble. Google is the gateway to the inter

Ok, admittedly the "dying industry" bit was hyperbole, but it irks me to no end that "old media" can't simply adapt. If it doesn't work like it's been working for the past 100 years, it must the end of the world. That kind of thinking is

Once again, a dying industry cries "The internet will destroy us!" Why not embrace the internet, change your model and MAKE IT WORK. Have we learned nothing from the music industry? If the customer demands that the books be $9.99, you don

I prefer to take notes in Textile with TextMate. It's not hard to get the extra stuff, and then I can easily turn it in to HTML so it looks somewhat pretty. Then I can share my notes with other people as well. (I have TERRIBLE handwriting

About 3 weeks ago, I got so irritated with trying to log in from time to time that I sat down for about an hour and tested every fat-finger combination of the password I used that I could think of. I took me about 40 tries, but I finally f

I was really excited about this, and was talking to my other founders about it until we noticed the cost. We're poor college students, we thought this would be a great chance to get exposure and meet investors... and we get slammed in to a

I had the same feeling. I work on computers that are infested with spyware from silly things like this. Not to suggest that this is a bad thing, but it's misleading, and might lead users to learn a bad habit.

Sorry, but I think search tools will evolve far faster than SEO will explode. Google changes all the time, and I can only assume they're working to make search less dependent on SEO and more focused on the content, and only the content. I

The Mac Mini is long overdue for something, but I'd be less surprised to see something in the same ballpark, but new. They've left the mini alone too long for just a simple update.
