Could you point me to a description of the VLIW compiler problems? In 1981 a small group of us coerced the Unix verion 7 portable C compiler to generate VLIW assembler as a senior project. There was nothing astonishing going on; the pcc h

I was a little surprised to see "Information" drop jobs over the past year, but digging back to the BLS report ( http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm ) I see that the numbers are dominated by publishing, broadcasting, and telecomm

I hope that's true. I'm worried that it will be too easy to avoid reality by staying with comfortable, ideologically compatible sources -- which is a problem regardless of ideology.

Can someone explain the redundancies to me? If you can't text rot13("shpx") then why do they need to block rot13("shpx") + " you"? Or does that imply that rot13("shpx") + " u" would be accepted (it's not on the list)? Or did someone just

If the original hash function is f(x), are there reasons the "second" hash function shouldn't be (f(x)+1)mod n (n being the number of hash slots)? I'm sure that some distribution of x would generate pathological behavior, but my question i

The slideshare is a talk about leveraging memcached access into more "interesting" access. From the slides: "Cached high scores suck; where's the good stuff?" Apparently EC2 was a target rich environment at the time of the talk. Using a

I'm curious about the misspelling of Torvalds. Was that a naive transcription of the spoken name, or a naive transliteration from a Finnish character similar to "eth"? ( https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Eth )
