Yup. When my mom tries to double click a mouse button, I hear anything from two to five clicks, and the mouse shudders under her hand as she attempts this. The result is predictably unpredictable. She seems to do OK with single clicks.

I retract this. Reading deeper, I see that he was comparing equal solar cell areas, and thus your analysis likely correct.

It's not impossible, because the sun's relative position changes, and the closer to orthogonal the light, the better the efficiency of the solar cell. By taking optimal advantage of the height, this design is closer to orthogonality more o

Are we talking about work or home computers? Overwhelming user pressure is slowly bringing Macs into the workplace, but they're only feasible because something like Citrix XenApp (aka Presentation Manager aka Metaframe) servers allow access

Entities like China that are less than assiduous in respecting patents are going to benefit enormously from the hobbling effect of U.S. patent litigation. I don't think it's a complete counterbalance to the lack of free information flow wh

Yes, it is the most important statement, and I disagree with it. Software expressions are a form of lambda calculus, i.e., mathematics, and ought to be outside the proper domain of patents, whereas the proper domain of patents is the materi

I went to the "source" slideshow, and I still can't tell how much these categories overlap. Part of my 401K is invested in a strictly-U.S. Treasury Bonds mutual fund. Does that count as owned by a household or by a mutual fund or get coun

If Microsoft wants to send a video gift to Linux, how about dedicating all their video codec patents to the public domain? Or making Ogg the default media format?

When I don't see a price where there should be a price, I call it "price too obscene for the internet" - though usually it's in the context of end user goods advertised with "Call now for special pricing!".

Five years latter, the U.S. has institutionalized a terrified attitude, at least with respect to air travel. At this point, the only thing that might compel me to put up with the useless, degrading, indignity of U.S. air travel would be a

Good science accepts all non-fraudulent evidence. In the case of evolution, we're dealing with large, highly variable populations. Thus, no individual observation will falsify the theory. Evolution is almost tautological in predicting th
