I'm not sure whether Kavanaugh is lying, but I do now know that Robinson can't write. That's an epic wall of text.

I'm not discussing what Damore wrote here. Everything in Exhibit B was written by Google employees. Everyone should read it.

Read Exhibit B of the Damore lawsuit. It's a virtual catalog of this sort of thing.

Was picturing a piece of paper with seeds stuck to it that I could water and instant plant or something. Now wondering whether I can plug 20 1U servers into that thing.

I can't tell if that's a pun or not... (well played!)

Am old. Not hurt. (Nor rich, I might add.) But when one side is constantly taking shots at you, and the other side is welcoming you with open arms, well, it's hard to ignore.

A key problem is that discriminated-against groups may actually do worse when evaluated anonymously merit-only basis. (There was a study, but I don't have the link.) Perhaps a better question would be, why aren't companies snappi

There's a lot to this. But in addition, the basic quality of journalism in papers like NYT and WaPo have fallen dramatically in the last few years. On any given day, I encounter a headline that simply does not match the story it'

Yeah, can relate. Wish the article had more ideas on how to deal with it, rather than just describing it.

No, actually. There's nothing I can do about this situation, and reading an analytic summary of it later if I'm curious is a far better use of my time.

I guess that sounds good, though it might sound less good after a mass casualty collision. Wonder if we couldn't have "ground strobes" visible only to viewers looking downward at a significant angle.

I give up--why shouldn't airplane strobes be on while they're on the ground?

I'd say it's a big deal because $850M donated to a worthy cause (e.g., GiveWell) could have made a big difference in the world. I've suffered far more for far less.

If you don't have kids, and don't plan to, the Bay Area could be a fun ride. And if it turns out not to be, well, you can just lick your wounds and leave. If you have kids, or think you might, you're doing them a grave disse

I've been reading ESR for decades and have never noticed him saying anything racist. Can you provide a few examples? (And I suppose using "old" in this way is against the CoC?)

It seems likely that most or all of the signatories would be in favor of the new CoC. (Perhaps some don't feel that it goes far enough.) Given the author's toxic Twitter comments, I'm suspicious of the motivations here.

Years ago, I was around employee number ten in a database software startup. When the company was sold, my shares were worth about $2000. (Yeah, that was my last startup.)
