Things I wished someone had told me about Bitcoin years ago (disclaimers, I own some and I haven't read the article but most comments are tangential anyway): - Your takeaway from the comments may be that Bitcoin is still controversial

How will this affect patent trolling? I feel it's a small, good step even though the issue is much larger. I mean, there has been shell companies filing for patent infringement in the past, hasn't it?

The Wikipedia page [1] has this jump from 68.11.0 to 79.0. The version scheme just changed to get consistent with Firefox for desktop AFAICT. I don't know of a trustworthy extension to download APKs from the Play store. I'm reluct

Could anyone link to the APK for the Android version, please? I can't find it on Mozilla's servers. Thank you and thanks to all involved in Firefox! edit: I mean how to download without the Play store? the support docs seem outdat

Really cool! Could you give specifics about the typical low and high of the battery cycle, please? (from XX% to XX%).

No worries but to be clear, do you stand by your opinion for old bikes? The ones I maintain are decades old and those 5 minutes I mentioned easily turn into 30 minutes at times because of brakes and guards working together against me. I

Honestly (disclosure: I own some of those second class domains), I highly doubt it. This is a case where efficient markets mostly apply I would assume. Sure, I'd reconsider if I'm really going to ship this dream side project in my

Unless everyone was doing this, it'd be worse as you'd be in the few who have this extension (which sounds like it can trivially be tested by a webpage making a couple of requests). Better remove the DNT header from this point of

Could it be made less bad if you could turn the tracker off (switch to airplane mode by physically removing power from the modem) any time you want? It'd be nice if the PinePhone supported this.

The PinePhone looks compelling indeed. One question: does anyone know where encryption occurs for 4G and Bluetooth voice for example? Is audio going to a BT headset encrypted inside the BT chip? Is audio going to the 4G network encrypted in

I see three dots left to the star in the URL bar, it expands and lets me add it. IIRC Firefox mobile requires you to long press the search field.

Thanks, that makes much more sense. I only looked at the domain name matching the package name. I'd still like to remove it but it feels much less worrying.

I don't know whether it's actually Chinese (OnePlus is by the way), not that it matters anyway. It has no business being on my phone and doesn't match with what most people seem to think Android One is.

Not proof, but my Xiaomi A3 (Android One) European version has a couple of China Mobile packages and what I suspect is China Telecom. It also has com.wapi.wapicertmanage, WAPI as in World Association of Professional Investigators! No idea w

No. First objectively a non-removable Youtube (/Google Search/Play Store/Play Services/Chrome/Drive/Files/Gboard/Gmail/Maps/Photos/Daydream...) app is bloatware, even if made by Google.

Honestly, Android is hopelessly so much worse than that. You need to disable/adb uninstall tens of apps because, you have no way to actually remove them. Some of them cannot be disabled (Google Play Services for instance). Additionally

Current vanity metrics seem to include "market capitalization" and amount raised during ICO. It is true that those have become signal in the current noise but it speaks about how frothy things are. Crytocurrencies simply are hard

You mean "why can't peach sellers make it up with volume?", marginal cost of copying software is zero, right? The problem is : so can lemon sellers. The price already accounts for this and it is too low to fund a peach seller

Good effort! Although you can't please everyone. I think you should mention cost. The rectangle is about 20m x 16m = 320m2 or about 10,7m2/person. And the ceiling is about 3.5m.

I particularly like the fact that the core spec is a hundred pages and they commit to keeping it small. The minimal architecture RVI32 is even much less than that and will probably still be useful in real life.

As an end user interested in RISC-V, I'd like to say thank you. You and other RISC-V contributors give me hope that we get a powerful, open, unbloated computing platform. And thank you for posting notes about the RISC-V Workshops.

Isn't its bootloader locked? Last time I checked you needed to go to Motorola's website to download a key specific to your phone so you could unlock it, but it voided the warranty.

Warning, the first time my browser hit this link, it redirected to a NSFW image rant about HN. The second time it worked though. I suggest one copies and pastes the link to avoid sending the referrer.
