I believe the UI is being managed to death. I noticed the same with Slack recently. The old UI was probably built by engineers for performance and ease of use. The new one is pretty, does all the stuff marketing wants, has loads of features

Then downvote and move on. Nobody is forcing you to read replies buried at the bottom of the thread going off on tangents. Fuscia and Java are both Android and tech related, don't see the problem. And the previous comment about Fuscia

So happy to see Java have broad support from various vendors. I've always been a fan despite it's shortcomings. I'm wary of using "captive" corporate languages like Go, C#, Kotlin. And there aren't any other op

Does anyone know how it compares to Codec2? Opus is great down to ~12kbps but Codec2 is the real contender down at the bottom. And I bet it uses way less CPU than Lyra

Escaping Java doesn't make sense to me now that the Oracle stuff is resolved. Java is a great choice for phone apps. Huge developer base with good productivity. And it's quite fast for a high level language. And the backwards comp

Newer versions of Java are better, but Android is stuck on a hacky version of Java 7 from a decade ago. Google is planning to fix this eventually. Android's API is also atrocious.

Multi threading sanely requires Arc, and reference counting is a crappy form of GC. If you have enough threads passing stuff around and can deal with the ~50% performance loss between Java and Rust, it's much easier to use a language w

No way. Rust is great, trust me. I'm not even going to say why because it would be a huge rant. It improves on C++ in virtually every way. Every feature you have in C++, Rust does it better. Every feature you wish C++ had, Rust has it.

Java is a better fit for high level code, and you can already use Rust where performance matters. I've put a lot of time into learning Rust and I still reach for Java for high level stuff. GC is just wonderful for developer productivit

I hear this all the time but in most of our apps average query time is less than 5ms in postgres. And it scales with threads, so it's more like 30k queries per second. We have a single Postgres instance and serve thousands of requests

In Java at least, the massive Hibernate ORM is only about twice as slow as raw SQL. Which is still orders of magnitude faster than Django. The lack of performance is far deeper than ORM usage.

We have a Rails app that struggles at 50 req/sec. It has an embedded Angular app whose back end easy handles 10,000 . One of the reasons were trying to migrate is that Rails servers cost us almost an engineer salary, where our other ba
