I'm a big fan of Jins ( https://www.jins.com/us/ ) in SF. They make your glasses on-site in ~30m. Price (lens + frame) is comparable to Warby Parker.

What is your point? In a swapping scenario the same would apply. Plenty of people sell on secondary markets. If everyone was restricted then those businesses wouldn't exist.

Why is "swapping" shares better than selling for cash (and then investing that in something less risky), which you can already do through secondary markets like Sharespost...

Is that true? The last article I read about millennial homebuyers is that the reason outstanding mortgage balances are increasing is because more millennials are putting down less than 20% because they couldn't otherwise afford to.

It's not too complicated - most big cities in CA have simply not built enough housing to keep up with population growth. Mass transit in/out of urban centers like SF/LA are very underdeveloped, so it makes it really difficult

Interesting SaaS idea...a company that plugs into whatever CRM you use (Zendesk, Freshdesk, Salesforce, etc.) and automatically compiles a summary of tickets that is sent to certain people or teams within the company.

Living in SF, the very real phenomenon I've noticed is friends who hit late 20s/early 30s, get married, and then leave with varying intentions but many to move closer to their parents (presumably in a cheaper area) so that they ca

But why was the obvious first use case for 1099 workers? I guess I was thinking of an app that would, say, see I have a losing investment and recommend that I sell before EOY to offset some taxes. Or put more money into my 401k if I hadn&#x

What do you mean "nothing inherent." Turnover is high because pay is low, so they need to constantly recruit new drivers via signup bonuses that pad their earnings for the first X months. If they fail to attract drivers then their

Are you kidding? The driver acquisition costs are extremely high. Driver turnover is high. There's much higher support costs on both driver and rider side than a typical "pure" software co.

The fact this might IPO at $20b is insane...that is the same as United Airlines which made $38b in revenue in 2017 and is profitable.

Nobody seems to care...until the company literally runs out of money. The difference between a SaaS and a Lyft is that Lyft has huge operating expenses. Burn rate is order of magnitude higher.

You're paying SV prices because you're getting paid more than you could otherwise anywhere else. Yes, for the average rank-and-file it's probably a worse deal than elsewhere, but if you are mid-level and have a chance at uppe

I don't see how these companies will stop losing $1b+ a year each year. The public markets will not be too kind. The end game was supposed to be autonomous taxis (cutting the driver out). I don't see how that's going to happe

In my experience, burn out has been less about working 12+ hours a day so much as working even a standard 40 hr workweek on something that is counter to your principles/true self. I think this is more frequently the case today because

Curious for anyone living in SF/SV and thinking about moving - what are your top choices?

I'm specifically referring to housing prices. Parents raising kids put an even higher premium on SFHs because they want to live in places that are within a preferred school district. It's just one of many factors.

The price premium you are paying, especially for housing, is really all about raising kids e.g. sending them to some of the best (albeit pressure-filled) public schools in the country all while keeping your high paying SV jobs. Basically as

I haven't tried a prepared meal prep food delivery service before, but I would imagine that a successful "bulk meal prep kit" would need to be cheaper per meal than one that is pre-made. I also think a major part of the appea
