Still waiting on that coast-to-coast FSD that was supposed to happen in 2017. Elon is a fantastic showman.

I'd be so happy if the Internet moved away from Cloudflare for Captcha. I got on their "bad list" at one point (for who knows why), and no matter how many times I checked the "I am a human" box their Captcha wouldn&

From my POV Amazon designs its services from a "trust nothing, prepare for the worst case" perspective. Eventual consistency included. Sometimes that's useful and most of the time it's a PITA.

If my Grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike. Yes, things change over time. I cringe to think of what some of the original 42" flat screen displays cost relative to the huge (much better looking) OLED panels of today.

Do they use MS Office for work, or just simple hobby stuff? If it's work stuff - leave them alone. For hobby stuff LibreOffice is a good replacement that you can trial on Windows. As far as distros go, I don't like some of the dec

IME the tradeoffs (reduction of ads + malware) are well worth the very occasional exception that needs to be made.

Yeah, Apple's bottom barrel pricing isn't terrible, but as soon as you start upping specs the price goes out of control (disproportionally from the underlying costs.) Looking at pricing for the current Macbook Air, it's $400

Lenovo currently offers Linux (Ubuntu) as an option Thinkpads. Dell used to once upon a time; I don't know if they still do.

I absolutely hate how Windows now basically forces you to sign in with a Microsoft ID in order to facilitate this kind of stuff. I just want a local system; I don't need all this online crap built into my desktop OS. For the last two d

The first "email" was sent in the 1971 and SMTP was designed in 1983. Back then the implementers didn't dream of the adoption levels of these protocols that we see today. Your same complaint could be levied against the best p

It makes me wonder what type of access support agents have in the first place. A lot of this information should require "unlocking" on a case-by-case basis by challenge/response while interacting with a customer.

That same rationale wouldn't support SMS as "something I have." iMessage and other solutions easily spread SMS into cloud and PC lands (ones that are more easily accessible than password managers.) More likely it's becau

Microsoft has jumped the shark with the way they're pushing their apps through this. It recently took me ~15 minutes of figuring out how to install the Windows Terminal on a newish version of Windows Server. Visiting Microsoft's w

I have a dedicated Windows 11 gaming laptop and I'm about at my breaking point of putting another drive in it to test out the games that I care about on Linux. Windows was tolerable to use just for gaming, but the hoops that you have t

Yep, joining Teams meetings from a browser on Linux is a flaky experience at best (despite Meet and Zoom working fine.) I'll happily send back a Google Meet invite to anyone that invites me to a Teams meeting.

I don't do much with Windows nowadays, but I do touch it from time to time and I don't think much has changed in this regard. Off the top of my head: driver installers for Intel, Nvidia, and Brother printers all look unique. Same

> Trump tells them they are OK. They are worthwhile. The chasm between what Trump says (and what the propaganda says about him) and what he actually does is astounding. Most of his fans are completely uninformed of what he says and does.

Also ~12K IRS workers (7x per head ROI) and inspectors general (who actually get results and are fully accountable) have been cut. And our already bloated military budget is increasing to $1 trillion without an eye being batted. DOGE is the
