Yep, once we reach a tipping point, we’ll see a snowball effect where low-margin gas stations are forced to close, others have to push their prices up, BEV’s become even more attractive and so on. With the number of cheap (mostly chinese) B

For generations we’ve had this concern that technology leads to poor outcomes, Johnny just wastes his time watching TV/Gaming etc… Still, parents, due to various factors had to let their kids be kids, and fend for themselves. The kids

SQL the language of choice for data manipulation, to me at least, although I wonder if I’m one of the dinosaurs after 20+ years. After working with MongoDb, CosmosDb and DynamoDb, I’m very happy to be back in a proper SQL world with Postgre

So background play in _select_ cases. Sounds like another regression like when they removed music sync from smart watches when they killed google music and there was no current or eta for an alternative with YT music. Never again google, no

To an extent. Entrenched usage patterns sometimes deserve to be broken, bringing in a new method of operation facilitated by new tech can be a game changer. I’m not in a position to say if this is the case here though, but for one example,

Yep, subversion was a dream compared to VSS, branches that actually worked, what a concept.

I disagree, in a lot of cases a new service would require an update to 1 or 2 stacks only, and only those 2 stacks need deploying. It is in some cases required to do some version of this as the vendor API support does not allow for proper f

Having a prebuilt consistent design system that you don’t have to build out for each project, arguing over defaults among the team is a lifesaver.

Hey Joe, Would this prevent you from integrating some modules such as AWS (I believe) from TF? So much love for Pulumi from me, it’s an amazing product.

It’s not that it’s impossible to parent without them, it’s just the easier path. Parents, just like other people, will often take the easier path for a million different reasons. 10 (more like 20) years ago, the easier path did not exist, o

What flavour? I’d love to be able to configure a proxmox, linux vm through pulumi (or TF if that’s your thing), Ansible seems to be the best option but I’ve not had enough experience to be competent as yet.

Cloud architectures can and should be relatively simple. It’s also a once off (kind of), and there are very established patterns to follow.

Sure, but to a certain extent, that’s survivorship bias. It’s very easy to run something with several 8’s of uptime if you’re not careful. AWS has good patterns to guide you into the pit of success.

Out of curiosity, which particular edge case was this? I’ve hit multiple oddities with cognito (only supporting custom claims in id token), lambda (consuming SQS messages without invoking the function when run in low concurrency). So there

With all due respect, I think this is a bit too simplistic. You cannot “teach” anyone anything, especially as they grow older, you can model the behaviour you desire, but even then, they have to want to ape their parents behaviour, unlikely

I’ve eradicated 2 nests of european wasps here in Australia by dumping a pretty strong solution of dish soap and water down the nest. Carefully, at night, with red light just to be sure. They are the most aggressive pests I’ve ever had the

This is very valuable advice. Find a niche, do one thing and do it well. You do you. Or if you want to be a generalist, that's very valid too, but again, you do you. The constant glorification of growth and the massive industry built a

I’d more ask what the cost vs benefits are of keeping the existing scheme, it’s not free to run all these DRM services, prosecute offenders etc… Not to say I support no copyright…

I’d put higher aggression (and capability to act on such) into the mix as well. From a long time ago, we were the aggressive hunters, warmongers, protectors of everything that “belonged” to us, including women and children. To this day, we’

This is a step in the right direction, if someone could come up with a simple enough but extensible enough de-facto standard for multiple “profile”, our lives would be immensely enriched.

I guess with the entrance of Amazon with Prime, this is becoming more normal now. A heap of the shoe brands / retailers at least have free returns and shipping (with minimum spend maybe though).
