This makes total sense to me as both an employer and for hiring contractors. Sure, if it’s easy to find a square sink expert (it’s usually not), then select for that, generally though, my needs are more varied than that, even if that’s my i

Why _should_ they? I can think of a dozen different reasons why not, flabbergasting is a bit of hyperbole.

This is amazing, everything up to the 'Seed Eco-Home', given the amount of time we spend building out bespoke designs and then relearning all the intricacies of each design, for everything from a spoon to a house, I've often

Just anecdata but this matches my (as an engineer) experience exactly. For any engineer, transitioning to people management of any sort, or just to have a better voice in any decisions, I think that broadly communication improvement, and

This is such a dystopian and paranoid view of the system. And unfortunately, I think if it's not totally a reality now, it's one we're heading for as it is the unchecked natural end of our current path.

I doubt this to be honest. If you could hire 2 or 5 of the next best engineers for the price of a top pick 'NFL' engineer, you'd be ahead in output in most situations. The same does not go for the NFL.

Personally, as an Aussie, I don't have any massive gripes with MyGov specifically. Bear in mind that it's mainly (only?) a portal to other departments (ATO, Centrelink, Medicare?). I don't actually see why we're botherin

Not surprisingly, this is a heavily editorialised headline, moderately so on HN and more-so on Reuters. The actual content states (emphasis mine): ...temporarily allowing some posts that call for death to Russian President *Vladimir Put

OK, so we have to weigh up your __desire__ not to get sick (at all) with what is statistically likely to be a mild illness vs the very real (to my mind, and others) downsides of extended periods in lockdown. Just because it was feasible (wh

This is great, thank you. My understanding is that most jurisdictions seem to equate the ICO / tokens as securities and as such should be regulated in a similar manner to an IPO. Do you have any good links on that or what is your exper

I agree with this to an extent. So, I just need a tech founder that's willing to partner with me and do the marketing side of it. In return, I'll do the same for them. Flip a coin to see who goes first.

I for one was. We have a platform whereby we need to expose logs and metrics to our clients, elastic/open search is a great option for this, unfortunately, being a non-opensource SaaS, elastic's license precludes it. Different

Sure, as an entity store for run of the mill CRUD apps. It has a MongoDB API Layer and a Cassandra API Layer (as well as SQL which is preferred). Works just fine, apparently cost can blow out though with high usage, I haven't got there

We self-host a postgres cluster in k8s (AKS). The main reason being that the Azure postgres offering was not fit for (our) purpose. We did start with the Azure offering, and our default is generally to use the cloud offering.

I thoroughly agree about the event-based-computing model but telemetry (as per the current common definition) won't drive this far enough. We need to take the telemetry model one step further and have the easy facility to insert shim

I don't think a cash economy will help. Pretty soon, maybe sooner if a cashless economy doesn't take hold, they'll use facial recognition to track who purchases what to bypass any cash transactions. The solution has to be a s
