Is it an obligation to tell your boss about a health problem that could keep you from finishing an important task? Of course. Steve Jobs' boss is his stockholders.

The number of failed credit card authorizations each month sounds like a useful economic indicator. There might be quants on Wall Street that could do something interesting with that sort of data.

Indeed. It's quite non-intuitive, but the naive assumption that the last digits are randomly distributed is simply wrong. Here is a V.I. Arnold essay about Benford's Law: http://www.math.ru.nl/~mueger/arnold.pdf

Come on. Playing card companies don't spend money and time to restrict the "playing card platform." Alarm clocks don't even have firmware to restrict and alarm clock companies don't care one way or another if their users take them apart and

This is price-fixing in the labor market. Collusion to keep tech wages low by artificially limiting competition. Of course, white male tech workers are are the beaten wife of industry. They take what they're given and shut up about it. I ex

I just did a quick order of magnitude calculation to see how many times that exact comment has been written in response to a story on the internet containing the word "decimate," and I came up with 10^7.

I get 6 points because at least 6 other people here found it insightful. Now, whatever the "goal" of feminism is doesn't matter. Just like the "goal" of communism never mattered. Results are what matter. And the results of feminism have bee

Have you ever known a characteristically "feminist" woman whom you'd describe as "pleasant"? Feminism does not lead to fulfilling life-choices. Computer science, for example, is not the most emotionally fulfilling career around for women, e

I agree that the original author's argument was no good. However, you're wrong about the $9.99 price. The price should be set by supply and demand to maximize revenue. Selling three ebooks for $9.99 is better than selling one ebook for $26.
