I use PayPal to send invoices to international customers, but only in low monthly $$ amounts. The costs aren't hurting me and it's a lot easier than worrying about the details myself. I suppose it depends on just how much you're using it--

If you have the sidebar up, also, the popups don't come up. I never noticed those until I closed the sidebar.

I love 8aweek-- probably one of my top 3 Firefox extensions. Really helped remind me when I got sucked into sites when I should be working. Not sure if it works for everyone, but it works well for me. RescueTime on the other hand hasn't rea

Well, our vision is pretty idealist. We do intend to have a real, tangible, positive net effect on society. We want to do it in different ways. Our first way is through http://bug.gd where we do everything in our power to be sure no one e

Well, if they have an open mind and allow submissions from the community, it could get new features added to Reddit. A closed site like Digg wouldn't get the benefit. That being said, Slashcode being open doesn't feel like it made Slashdot

Tell your son that, for what it's worth, he's convinced some computer programmers (some friends of mine and I) to call that number Quadrupillion. People he will never meet will forever refer to that number as Quadrupillion. He's already cha

As a counter-anecdote, I did a (full-day) software engineering interview in 1998 wearing an old Magic The Gathering t-shirt and jean shorts. I'm not sure what I was thinking except the HR person told me they were pretty casual there-- this

Okay, here's some of the reasons that occur to me: It's not just blogs. It's also new web apps, aggregators, wikis, mashups, and documentation. Users also get to reuse their avatar/username across multiple sites which might encourage commen

For sport over the years, my friends and I have worked through many of ITA's great programming puzzles. I've even used one of their old puzzles (Addagram) in (surely) 100+ interviews where I walk candidates through building up the different

I can second this. I have two remote cofounders (~2 hours away), both are decade-long friends. So far working out well, but we've had instances where one of us needs to come up and stay with the other for a business week or two to get throu

Yeah, I've aimed at 800x600 for my general-focus sites. I feel sorry for the 5% of our audience that still uses it and it hasn't hurt us so much yet. For my gaming sites, less than 1% of our visitors use 800x600 or lower. We'd probably go w

You've really got a bad taste in your mouth regarding PHP. I'm sorry to hear that because it's just yet another tool. It only has to be as painful and slow as you make it when you use it. I hope you have a chance to revisit it sometime with

Work doesn't necessarily need to be stressful. If you're doing the right stuff, it's fun enough that you want to keep at it and you're productive in different ways throughout the day. It's rare when I feel like I'm "working all [my] waking
