This confuses me-- what does Apple spend on advertising? It's surely enormous.

I've used Centos a lot with no major difficulties. I've also had great luck with SuSE, where I'm a big fan of AppArmor to help prevent zombification (assuming you're running any standard/open source web apps).

That sounds like an argument to change how to make freemium more successful-- it doesn't sound like a counter-argument against the fact that they can be. Why don't more freemium services allow one-shot addon purchases instead of subscriptio

I don't think it's apples to oranges, personally. Unless you mean "examples where it does work" versus "examples where it doesn't work" as a business model. I'm no expert here, but these guys seem to believe addon and premium content will b

It's making billions of dollars in the gaming industry (particularly with the play for free, pay for added content MMOs). I don't think it's the fact that the concept of "freemium" is flawed for consumers, but you need to have very compelli

Thanks for all the feedback. The Solved Bugs page does give an example of errors being solved, but it's actually primarily there to ensure that bugs people solve also get indexed by Google and other search engines. The importance of that is

Hey guys, we'd love feedback on our relaunch. Any thoughts you have are encouraged-- we've worked very hard on this. (If for some reason this submission isn't appropriate for hn.yc, please let me know what we can do to change that-- our pos

Yeah, we just saw that, too. We restrict seeing solved bugs for your company, so we intended to take that off the front page for users not logged-in. To see what it looks like for public solutions: http://bug.gd/solved

That's a bit odd. That should only happen if our spam filter picked-out a really obvious spam comment of some sort over the past year. If you email us, we'll figure out how your IP address got flagged and fix that right away.

We're very pleased with it. We actually managed to catch some spare time working with one of the designers of ClickPass's site (which I'm a huge fan of). Feel free to pass this site onto your old colleages at the school division. We may ver

I'm still not sure why it wouldn't be something that can double (or look like) an email address. It has drawbacks, but it wins on usability because everyone is doing it today. Even if Yahoo said your openid is: thorax@openid.yahoo.com peopl

Makes me a bit sad to see this poll because I don't actually think about it-- when you enjoy being productive it doesn't really sink in that you're "working" quite so much. Doing some back of the napkin calculations, I work ~80 hours a week
