If nothing else, it'll be amazingly useful to make a similar/adapted work from it. I remember a good while ago, there was another game company working on a military vehicle game that went belly-up and released their source code. I was able

I'm also a big fan of Perforce for large (especially internal) repositories. It handles just about everything smoothly and is also free for Open Source. That being said, I've really been enjoying working with Mercurial. I think the biggest

Much better than Amazon used to have, definitely. Though I'm not so sure it's really as impressive as I first thought. It seems to heavily weigh the beginning of the search text. Here's the same search you used, but with the beginning part

For what it's worth, they've improved branching and merging (on the backend) not long ago. Of course it's not inherent to the platform like most DVCS.

I'm talking more about the Firefox extension they have. Where you basically select text on the page (including images, etc) and then click Google's notebook button-- it will index that, store the snippet, etc. http://www.google.com/googlen

I use Google Notebook for this sort of thing (or used to)-- how does this compare to that? Is there a key difference I should check out first?

Yeah, the way it's framed can be made easier, probably. The "discount perspective" is always easier to swallow. What I'd like for us to do, as real businesses do, is to turn the discussion into one of costs and stop pretending to our commun

I was really lost as to what this was for. I thought it might be web application invites (i.e. to social networks). I didn't know that this was for events/parties/etc. Maybe you can put an example somewhere or even give them an option to se

Surely I'm not the only one who liked TechMeme exactly as it was and never saw a major issue with it. I think it's actually great just as it is. Who runs into those issues where articles are bad? If I compare it to how Google News started o

It'd be a toss up, but I've been surprised by Silverlight. The recent implementation of Netflix streaming has been working without a hitch for me on Mac, and I like some of the concepts they've worked into Silverlight-- most notably the dyn

I'm a big fan of Code Igniter-- I actually think you'll produce much better PHP code if you learn a framework. It's really easy to design poorly with PHP and a good framework can help build up good habits to take with you long-term. CI is a

It is a big marketplace with huge players (i.e. Microsoft, Symantec, Citrix, etc) already doing app virtualization/streaming. Still, since it's so large other major companies will be looking for a good platform to build upon if they can get

It's $7, lighten-up. I'm about to spend $15/person/hour for deeper usability tests and now I can ask less in-depth questions but as often as I want for much less? Pure gold.

It's far more compelling than you think. There are a number of companies offering this Windows app virtualization layer today in different ways (they actually have a lot of patents on this). Softricity did this and was acquired by Microsoft

This was actually something we were also going to pitch to YC recently. Glad (I guess?) we didn't-- but without the virtualization layer (but lots of automatic automated testing) so we could handle real world/common apps.

I'd like to know more about the virtualization piece-- what kind of apps can run? Some of our apps could be a bit lower-level (services, kernel-mode drivers, etc). Does BaseShield allow those? I know most system virtualization platforms can

Excellent list there. I think all of your issues are all things I also see as drawbacks to Perforce. I think the main breaking point out of your list would be the merging instability you mention, which we haven't had at either of my last tw
