I couldn't find any mention why they went this route over the 3D Canvas approach. It seems FF was making some progress on an extension for that, too ( https://wiki.mozilla.org/Canvas:3D ). Anyone know/read enough about this area to specul

Flickr is harder, I'd use a different database.Doing image searches using existing online images is becoming easier (e.g. TinEye). An evil bot would just do image searches against flickr for each of those images and read/scan the tags there

Anyone have a suggested script like this that isn't so phishy? Tinyarro.ws is absolutely worthless to IE6 users (since it doesn't support unicode in URLs) so we actually would want to encourage IE6 visitors to our homepage to upgrade. It's

One of the interesting things here was this graph (when you change it to $ per state); http://manyeyes.alphaworks.ibm.com/wikified/acquired_startup... Texas brought in almost as much money as CA in acquisitions in this snapshot of data.

I just walk into an empty one ~10 minutes after the hour-- which a large percentage of the time at my company means it's free for at least 50 more minutes. If not, I leave when people come by.

Yeah, this is awesome if nothing else for giving me a tool to see what I've tweaked/played with when using the Firebug CSS editor to play with my site's styling. This should become a default addition to Firebug.

Last time it happened for one of our sites it was ~1500 visits or so. I'm sure it various depending on content/interest/day/etc. Though I'm not sure why you'd be so keen on the actual numbers. This isn't the sort of site where you're really

I read advertisements from time to time. I click on them from time to time, especially on Google searches when I'm looking for a company/service that solves a particular problem. I almost never click them on any other site.

I.e. it's a Chatterous room with an RSS bot in it using the chatterous API. So now HN is talking at me via Gtalk-- pretty neat.

I have to second this. I've been using the Tree Tab addon for months now and have a hard time going back. I definitely wouldn't want to be without it for any widescreen monitors (e.g. every laptop I own). I now, on average, have ~20 tabs op

I tried to use Scalr very early on and it was really poor. But it was also very young. We may give it another shot.

We're big fans of RightScale. Their developer version is free and pretty much that's all we use at the initial stages. We use S3, EC2, EBS, Cloudfront, SQS, etc. They have tools for tweaking all of those built-in so it makes life easier. Of

We've been finding it a pretty interesting way to do advertising actually, and we've seen very few people over 40 coming through. Hard to tell if it's just the demographics/interests we chose, though.

Actually, Digg is probably big enough to avoid any penalties for doing a different redirect based on user-agent. I.e. 301 redirects for non-human useragents instead of forcing them to go through their framejacked page. We're actually experi

Some old discussion here: http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/15/loopt-may-be-friending-... > Loopt has remained tight lipped about who they’re talking to, but the pitch is pretty clear. Competition is driving down mobile voice revenues

We asked the same thing, didn't see one, and rolled our own invite code stuff for Django. I think it's modular enough that we may release it. I'll ask that site's dev lead about that.

Yeah, I use this every single day for different circles of work, hobby, friends. I felt it very succinctly when Gtalk went haywire the other day and Chatterous was broken.
