This was taken very early in the day, as witnessed by the sharp northwestern shadows and disorganization in the crowd. I'd guess it was around 7am based on when the sun came up today here.

Unless you can move to a host quickly where you'll know exactly how your app can scale, I recommend you cache the hell out of everything possible. What does the site run on, by the way? Maybe we can offer more specific advice.

Nice to see a link to the city paper; that's my favorite little rag around here. They did some great journalism on the Thomas Sweat serial arson story a couple years ago...I'll have to look for the online versions of some of the better arti

For my money, there's still nothing better than a good newspaper. We get the Washington Post here. On TV, the broadcaster controls the order and scope of reporting (you're fed the news). On the internet, vital information can easily becom

If I were any kind of ornithologist, I'd devise a sensory device (human-inaudible sound, most likely) that would frighten the birds away, possible via mimicry of a predator. Note that this is an excerpt of a comment I made on the news artic

Advanced languages like Haskell will never reach Prime Time in the sense of the term because they're too challenging. Similar to the "Python Paradox," except that Python's easy to learn. There's a strange appeal (that we all still can relat

Not "is a," but rather, "may be." This is because I never personally experienced the problems noted in the link I posted, but they are coming from what appears to be a credible source. You mistook a suggestion of problems for a personal con

No, that mistake typically is a result of somebody faulting Ruby for Rails' problems. As the parent to my comment said, Rails: Here's a kick-ass hammer, a kick-ass saw, a kick-ass measure tape, etc... My point is that those kick-ass tools

I think 70s-80s was a small depression, but they can call it a recession if they want. A recession is more like the dot-com bust + 9/11. Off the top of my head: * 1807 (Embargo! Political cartoon: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm

depression != "Great Depression" I'm tired of explaining this. Yes, we're entering a depression. It's not this nation's first, nor its second or third.
