The example gives [with my annotations] "m4.2xlarge [8 core] US East [...] can automatically apply to 2 m4.xlarge [4 core] instances in us-east-1a [AZ flexible] or 4 m4.large [2 core] instances in us-east-1b [AZ, again, flexible]"

"openssl [...] straightforward" I don't think so. It's in the article; DTLS is too complex. The author wants something simple. Most implementations (eg. WebRTC) involve pulling in truck loads of C libs; it's insane.

But we already knew that. It's in the article, so again there is a story here that you're missing. We want a client/server protocol that is encrypted and simple -- not requiring ICE/STUN/TURN (OMG).

You're not wrong, but I think the point was, in a browser, you can get your TCP _connection_ "automatically" encrypted by connecting to HTTPS endpoints. It's not so easy -- "built in" -- with a connectionless p

Most or all stats will show mobile FF browsing usage at about IE6 levels, and I don't think you'll find anyone caring much for the later market any longer. We [web developers] owe a lot to FF, Firebug, etc, but the writings on the

To my knowledge, Memcached really only wins when you can make use of it being multi-threaded -- have a lot of concurrent key requests. Even though Redis runs single-threaded, it often will do more IOPs with respect to a single Memcached thr

I believe the ask is to have any scripts loaded to persist through restarts of Redis. As is, you have to reload them on each init of Redis. As such, the onus is on applications to catch evalsha errors and load the missing scripts, in the ca

It says "drivers earn up to $10 per trip", which means a driver can earn nothing! Or the rider can pay "from $4-10"; Lyft takes no more than the rider(s) pay; and the driver takes the rest.

Maybe because they support attached storage through USB and could reduce complexity by only sourcing, manufactoring, supporting and making solid one bus/controller? What would they possibly gain by supporting ATA devices?

Unlikely you are going to overwhelm Redis in a non-deterministic fashion. What do you even mean by overwhelm? The post only concerns itself with in-memory workloads; I don't think Aerospike is competition in this space, while their adv

Products' pricing can't be their value; if pricing isn't algorithmic, someone is doing something very wrong! Or us nerds have a market to exploit -- I think many people are doing this in many nitch corners. So, computers are

The resale market alone is profiting $380M per year on Nike shoes. I'd wager a majority of that is in Jordans. Nike knows this market exists, and they are doing a fine job keeping the streets hungry for their brands. Watch / read

I'd hope one of the first things for DB slow down is the running queries (eg. `show processlist` in flavors of MySQL) and seeing the number of rows examined. Maybe your DB doesn't have that, so you see hopefully see long running q

There are a lot of things your FS is not going to give you (eg. transactions), and if you're going to have to query it anyway to get that, you might as well have your blob there too. For "small" blobs, say <256K, your data
