The Steam Deck is basically this. IMO it runs games in Linux better than Windows (especially with gamescope and the instant sleep and resume feature) and has played every game I have thrown at it. I assume at the pace Valve is updating Stea

If you freeze it, that doesn't happen (can get freezer burn but that's a different issue). Freezing a uncut loaf makes it very difficult to consume.

I mean he clearly didn't put much thought into this blog post, but from an engineering perspective I think the founder of Comma.ai could probably pull this off.

https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/security/nft-art-sales-are-boom... A lot of the art is stolen. NFTs do nothing to prevent that.

GCP has had a ton of price hikes and price reductions. This change tells us one of two things: 1) they want to use price as a way to influence customer behavior 2) A PM wants to get promoted and this is a way to hit whatever arbitrary metri

I think a really important factor is where in the reporting structure DevRel sits. I was a Dev Advocate at Google, and because we were in the engineering ladder there was not much of a comp difference between my role and a SWE. We had folks

I can see a little overlap between the two, but how are they competing with each other? With Link, you need a gaming PC running 24/7, and then you need another device and a controller to go with it. The Deck is all in one. It's li

This won't work with most cloud platforms. What do you do when a customer goes past the prepaid amount? Stop everything? Delete everything? Charge them anyway?

https://cloud.google.com/billing/docs/how-to/budgets You could argue that there should be some sane defaults though. GCP, AWS, etc are usually good about waving bills if it's very clearly an accident and

Fair, but that seems like a really really small segment of the market assuming it's legal. For 99% of businesses I don't think this is an issue.

My big question with using a Web3 login is what advantages it gives the website owner. With social Web 2.0 login, I can be fairly sure the person logging in has a valid email address, a name, etc, and it is a single click for the user vs fi

I feel Windows Containers are a whole separate thing. I personally have never seen anyone use them, but then again I have never worked on a Windows Server stack.

Why? HN readers seem like the best folks to beta test a product on as they can give a lot of actionable feedback and have context on what good systems should look like. And we typically like helping fellow hackers/entrepreneurs/et

These days, Standard uses gVisor so there are fewer and fewer constraints. Most things just work. Flex really is for the edge cases where you need really big instances or really long execution times. (I used to work at GCP)

I'm sure they will support x86 for years, but I have a feeling they will stop selling new products with x86 rather quickly. If you look at the PPC to x86 transition [0] it happened faster than predicted, and OS support only lasted 3

1) you can cap the max instances in GCR. You can put a limit of like 2 instances and ramp it up gradually. 2) it's 60k for a full month running at 100% capacity. Chances are you will notice this. This blog post is showing the upper lim

I think some people are missing the point when comparing this to a traditional VM setup. Yes it is way more expensive, but it lets you deploy something that works in 10 minutes vs messing with VMs and auto-scaling groups and all that jazz.
