This is what they enforced during basic training. We had like 5min to shove 1000 calories into our mouth, and if someone in front of you got up before you were done, you had about 20 seconds to finish and get up before being yelled at to le

Down with KSH!!! I worked for a place that used it heavily. When Suse removed the old KSH from their OS, it broke a lot of scripts. This taught me the importance of portable scripts. I do my best to write my shell scripts in POSIX compliant

That sucks dude, I'm sorry. I mean, I get it from the company's perspective. They have a product that serves video, you were building a thing that served video. The thing that irks me is that since they build multiple operating sy

I use zsh on my work and personal computers. I'm not ssh'ing into boxen these days. But when I do, I'm not doing anything more than reading logs to figure out why the userdata on an EC2 didn't work as expected. I try to

Everything in Markdown with the code. Other parts of the company use Confluence, but the docs with the code are what I pour my heart and soul into. Slack is always a good resource, but I'd hardly call it "documentation".

If anyone has any tips on keeping up with control plane upgrades, please share them. We're having trouble keeping up with EKS upgrades. But, I think it's self-inflicted and we've got a lot of work to remove the knives that ke

Too many false positives with Pi-Hole. I never felt comfortable putting my partner on the same vlan that it was serving DNS requests for fear that something would break for them when I was out of town, unable to get into the pi-hole and sor

Planes get changed, especially if the flight is far out. If not enough people buy a ticket for a 737-8 sized plane, SWA will sometimes swap it out with a 737-700 with a smaller capacity. This also allows SWA to fly with one less flight atte
