The physical environment from my childhood was substantially “worse” than what exists now. I don’t remember really ever going to a park, and the playgrounds that existed were full of [fun] death traps. When I got older and rode my bike eve

I can’t think of a single prescription medication which, when taken according to recommendations, causes permanent, irreversible, traumatic psychological damage after one dose.

California’s grid is so bad that nobody even bothers reporting on it anymore.

This image should just get autoreplied any time somebody tries to (incorrectly) claim that Elon Musk is just a salesman: https://www.reddit.com/r/SpaceXMasterrace/comments/ub1yav/bu...

Ah, my mistake. I had been reading about this and read “passive speed limiter” as something that…limits the speed. This sounds absolutely and completely useless.

I don’t like this but I also don’t know the alternatives. People drag race right in front of my house all night long on the weekends. It’s absurdly dangerous. We are on the edge of a residential neighborhood (so our house faces the main

What the hell has happened to google? Who remembers google doing things like not closing HTML tags as a way of shaving microseconds off of the page render? Just tons and tons and tons of work being done to make google.com load quickly, and

I really wish people would be more careful about choosing names for these things. LoRa has been a popular wireless protocol for like 10 years.

This is so funny to me. I feel like I am always "seeking non-technical cofounder". I'm a great programmer, and I can build almost anything, but I am not a sales guy. I've been some incredibly sales guys in my life.

Neither HN, nor forums would qualify for this. Reddit would. Afaik, HN does not tailor the front page per user (log out then log back in. The FP is the same)

Moderation really used to be just removing spam or abuse. At some point it became enforcing topics . While yes a subreddit about trains should stay in topic space about trains, mods have overstepped that. Take for instance the Star Trek

Reddits attempt at community moderation killed it. Even hyper specific subs, like city subs, are victim to the ideological whims of their moderators. My local subreddit has basically become useless because mods have banned so many people,
